    Title: Judges 18. The first appendix: The tribe of Dan seeks land that God hasn't given.
    I don't work to get blessed by God, I already am by grace due to the efficacious sacrifice of our Lord. My life will be one of that very blessing when I think and walk in that very blessing I have received. By grace I have received and by grace there go I.
    The believer can only walk in the plan of God according to the strict guidance of NT doctrine and the power of G/HS. The experience of prosperity lies nowhere else.
    When a person performs some sort of evil he will become more evil. If he hates then he will be cruel, and the ones he is cruel towards, he will hate even more. In history we witness this any time there is great anti-Semitism in a country. The more you hate the more cruel you will become and then you will hate more and you...

    Psa 25:12 Who is the man who fears the Lord?
    He will instruct him in the way he should choose.
    Psa 25:13 His soul will abide in prosperity,
    A prosperous soul will enjoy material prosperity as well, in the material that God has chosen to bless them with; a little or a lot.
    There is a prosperity of the wicked, that to the untrained eye may look like the prosperity of the righteous.
    Psa 73:1 Surely God is good to Israel,
    To those who are pure in heart!
    Lam 4:1 How dark the gold has become,
    How the pure gold has changed!
    The sacred stones are poured...

    Title: Judges 17. The first appendix: What is God's prosperity?
    Satan has many schemes by which he attempts to get us to lay down the weapons of our spiritual warfare. As we see in this first appendix, syncretism is one such scheme in which we alter the plan of God by combining it with our own plans.
    The only fatal thing is to sit down content with anything less than perfection in God's plan.
    There is another great trap that Satan has laid for us all. In the areas of the plan of God that you do not like there is likely some vice or bad habit that you do like that is getting in the way. As one who loves God, you would rather it be out of the way. Satan may help you get it out of the way, so long as you accept something far worse, and that worse things is pride.
    A person can be...

    Title: Judges 17. The first appendix: What is God's prosperity?
    Lamentations is a book in the Hebrew Bible in which five lamentations are written about the fall of Jerusalem and Judah. The original title to this book in the Hebrew is eeykaah, the first word of the book, which means, "alas, how?..." How did it come to this? Picture Jeremiah looking over the ruins of Jerusalem, the city he loved because it was God's city, the temple that he loved because it was God's abode, and the people that he loved because they were God's elect, and writing five poems of lament.
    Lam 1:16 "For these things I weep;
    My eyes run down with water;
    Because far from me is a comforter,
    One who restores my soul;
    My children are desolate
    Because the enemy has prevailed."...

    Verse 6 gives the theme of the appendices. "In those days there was no king in Israel." They did not regard Jehovah as their King, nor was there a human king to enforce the worship of Jehovah at Shiloh.
    Rather than having a central figure in their hearts as the name of God, or on a throne to enforce the proper worship of the people, we find a mother who blesses and curses in the name of Jehovah, while her actions go contrary to that name. We find a son who has an orthodox name, but commits the ultimate sin against that name by establishing a cult system in his home.
    Micah finds a Levite...

    Jdg 17:1 Now there was a man of the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Micah.
    Jdg 17:2 And he said to his mother, "The eleven hundred pieces of silver which were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse in my hearing, behold, the silver is with me; I took it." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by the Lord [Jehovah]."
    Jdg 17:3 He then returned the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother, and his mother said, "I wholly dedicate the silver from my hand to the Lord [Jehovah] for my son to make a graven image and a molten image; now therefore, I will return them to you."
    Jdg 17:4 So when he returned the silver to his mother, his mother took two hundred pieces of silver and gave them to...

  • Judges 17. The first appendix: Some precautionary principles before studying apostasy.
    Title: Judges 17. The first appendix: Some precautionary principles before studying apostasy.
    Last night we learned that forgiveness of one another must be done in the way that God in Christ has forgiven us. He demands that we forgive one another without debating the weight of the sin or to whom it injured. In fact, we are to know that the injury was done to the law of God and not me or someone else, and therefore the injury was done to God alone. If you sinned against me, Jesus as a third party forgave the sin without consulting me and asking my approval. I must forgive with this in mind and leave all judgment, retribution, vengeance, or discipline in the hands of the Lord.
    When love is empowered by the Spirit within the believer, all are loved, friend and enemy, because God has done it.
    1Pe 3:8 To sum up, let all be...

    Title: Judges 17. The first appendix: Some precautionary principles before studying apostasy.
    Last night we noted that Christianity is in a war and as such, within ourselves, it is a war. We are to seek Christ. We are to seek truth by means of the Holy Spirit. If we find Christ in our understanding then we will find all that is Christ; things like peace and tranquility. If we begin by looking for tranquility and peace, we will not find it. Our fallen nature and our severe dependence on Christ, make it impossible. C.S. Lewis puts it well.
    "In religion, and in war and everything else, comfort is the one thing you cannot get by looking for it. If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end: if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth - only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with and, in the end, despair." [C.S. Lewis, Mere...

    Title: Judges 17. The first appendix: Some precautionary principles before studying apostasy.
    Last time we discussed the pressure that comes upon the believer who recognizes that he is to live in the perfect plan of God. The new life of the believer is supernatural and cannot be lived in by human effort. The believer is to follow the word of God precisely and his is to trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to make such a life a reality. Not one believer has to fear this heavenly life since all have been given the word and the Spirit.
    Such a life will not be forced upon any believer. He must come to know it and he must long for it as his one and only life, which is exactly what it is for a new creature in Christ. Every believer will fail, and if he forgets the grace of God, he will be excessively burdened by his failures.
    Grace rids us of guilt and despite...
