Title: Judges 20. The second appendix: The Benjamite War; Coming to know Christ fully through complete devotion.

As he revealed in his letter to the Colossians, Paul and his fellow-preachers, having themselves received the peace which was made "though the blood of the cross," now fulfill their ministry by presenting that peace for acceptance to others, and they suffer for it.

In the fulfillment of the ministry to present the light of Christ to the world, we are exposed to suffering for Christ's sake, and these are considered the sufferings of Christ, and our share in them.

This is why we are called to suffer for His sake. It was all a part of the plan a billion years ago. Christ would bring salvation to the world through suffering. He would suffer on the cross because of us, because of our evil and our sin. When that...

Title: Judges 20. The second appendix: The Benjamite War; Coming to know Christ fully through complete devotion.

The devil always sends errors into the world in pairs - pairs of opposites. And he always encourages us to spend a lot of time thinking which is the worse. He relies on your extra dislike of the one to draw you gradually into the opposite one.

This is why Satan encourages the church to argue amongst themselves about which errors are worse. Is legalism worse than licentiousness? If I say legalism is worse, I will be slowly drawn into licentiousness. We must not bother with either of them, and keep our eyes on the upward call of Christ.

Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might.

Eph 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of...

Title: Judges 20. The second appendix: The Benjamite War; the law of Christ is the law of love.

Complete dependence on God flows from love for Him with all our heart, soul, and strength. It also means that I love my neighbor as myself. My love for myself is manifest in that I want the best for myself, but so often people are confused or misguided in their search for what is best. The believer in Christ, if he attains some wisdom, will realize that the life that God has gifted to him is indeed the best thing for him, and if he loves his neighbor as himself, then he will desire nothing but that same life for his neighbor. We should all desire God's joy.

We should all desire to know and experience the full extent of Christ during our earthly lifetime. Such a life is the best by far. Whatever...

Title: Judges 20. The second appendix: The Benjamite War; Final words on commitment to God.

We read in the scriptures last night that God has made us alive together with Christ. We were quite alive when this happened, and therefore it is a different kind of life. The mystery in this is as great as all the others in Christianity. God didn't give us angelic life or a higher form of human life. He gave us His own life - eternal life.

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

Gal 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.

The analogy, so often used in the Bible, is agriculture.

If we sow to the Spirit,...
