  • Judges 6. Gideon, part 15: Idols and false gods will suffer indignity and we must not look back them.
Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 15: Idols and false gods will suffer indignity and we must not look back them.
    Announcements:
    Jdg 6:25 Now the same night it came about that the Lord said to him, "Take your father's bull and a second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal which belongs to your father, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it;
"Take your father's prime bull of seven years old and pull down the altar." God used in His service what the idolatrous father prized.
Jdg 6:26 and build an altar to the Lord your God on the top of this stronghold in an orderly manner, and take a second bull and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down."...

  • Judges 6. Gideon, part 14: Idolatry or carnality cannot coexist with the service of God.
Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 14: Idolatry or carnality cannot coexist with the service of God.
    Announcements:
Jdg 6:22 When Gideon saw that he was the angel of the Lord, he said, "Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face."
As is our fear of entrusting our entire soul to God so is Gideon's fear irrational. He can't defeat Midian as one man if he's dead.
"God just came to me and right to my face gave me this enormous mission to free His entire nation from the worst oppression it has ever seen, but before I could do anything, I died because I saw His face."
    Fear makes us illogical.
    Jdg 6:23 And...

  • Judges 6. Gideon, part 13: The Lord demands that we entrust our entire lives to Him.
Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 13: The Lord demands that we entrust our entire lives to Him.
    Announcements:
Gideon gets the sign that he was looking for, but it then filled him with fear. Being so occupied with the sign, he hadn't thought of its implications.
He didn't plan ahead or even contemplate what the actual fulfillment of the sign would imply to him and his future. He was so occupied with confirming that this was indeed the Lord that he didn't think of the implications if it was actually Him.
Jdg 6:22 When Gideon saw that he was the angel of the Lord, he said, "Alas, O Lord God! For now I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face."
Jdg 6:23 And the Lord said to him, "Peace...

  • Judges 6. Gideon, part 12: The Lord turns Gideon's gift into an offering, showing Israel that they may return to Him.
Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 12: The Lord turns Gideon's gift into an offering, showing Israel that they may return to Him.
    Announcements:
Jdg 6:14 And the Lord looked at him and said, "Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?"
Jdg 6:15 And he said to Him, "O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's house."
Jdg 6:16 But the Lord said to him, "Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat Midian as one man."
Jdg 6:17 So Gideon said to Him, "If now I have found favor in Thy sight, then show me a sign that it is Thou who speakest with me....

  • Judges 6. Gideon, part 11: Gideon finds a little faith and honors his Guest.
Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 10: Gideon finds a little faith and honors his Guest.
    Announcements:
Jdg 6:11 Then the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites.
Jdg 6:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."
    Gideon's first response is denial.
Jdg 6:13 Then Gideon said to him, "O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?' [message of the prophet] But...

Jdg 6:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."
"Valiant warrior" - gibbor (hero or proven warrior) chayil (strength or power). "The Lord is with you, proven warrior of strength."
Certainly Gideon does not presently fit this description. Right now it is a paradox, but soon enough God will lead him to find faith and strength...

Title: Judges 6. Gideon, part 9: The Lord is with you - proof is in the word and not a sign.
    Announcements:
Jdg 6:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."
Just as deliverance is near to Gideon and thus all Israel if they believe, so deliverance is to all Jews throughout the church as the gospel is always near. Certainly, it is no different for the Gentiles, but what Israel has at the outset of the church, which Paul calls to our attention in Romans 10, that the Gentile did not in his age, are the words of the Old Testament, which words contain the gospel.
Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
    Rom 10:5 For Moses...

Jdg 6:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."
Right up until the coming of Christ, most of the people in Israel continued to seek for signs, failing to see true power in the word.
What they failed to see and to hear is that they had the word of God and within it the recording of all the miraculous signs from God as...

Jdg 6:12 And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, "The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior."
Yet in another aspect, the ways of fellowship with the Lord, Israel has not been with Him and so they fail to enjoy His grace gifts which are so near.
1Jo 1:5 And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no...
