We all need this practical message today in one form or another as we face trials. Peter does not promise that following Jesus will exempt a believer from hardship. Far from it. He says that we should not be surprised at the fiery ordeals as if they are abnormal. Peter instead points us to Christ and the glory that is promised in heaven there are so many lessons in this letter that we can learn that will only help us to be strengthened and encourage us to be different in this world.

John 14 begins amid an emotionally trying time; Jesus brings comfort. Please stop and think about this. Jesus is about to go to the cross, and he is putting the disciple's need of comfort ahead of himself. God's wrath is about to be cured out on him for our sin and for the sin of these very disciples, and yet he reaches out in compassion to them. Jesus offers hope to the troubled heart proves we can trust Him and reveals that he is the only way, the only truth, and the only life.

Jesus said I am the resurrection and the Life. When he made this statement, he knew what no one else did. That he would shortly begin a week that would end with His own death on a cross, which in turn would lead to his own resurrection from the grave.

John 10 is one of the most theological chapters in the gospel. The lord had entered into an intense time of conflict and opposition to His ministry, and his enemies were analyzing every word that he said with the intention of punishing him. Over and over again, he alienated the Pharisees and drew his won flock closer to Himself with teaching like we have in John 10:1-21 where he proclaims that He is the door and the Good Sheperd.
