If there is anything you will ever learn from our pastor then let it be this, "No one can save themselves." This is the immutable truth that all of mankind will one day come face to face with. No one can save themselves by their own effort, by their sincerity, by their compassion or by their own self-righteousness. What is required to be in right relationship with God is absolute moral perfection, and the indisputable fact is we have all failed to attain that. Which means no one, by his own effort, can be saved. This is why we need the gospel. Jesus accomplished for us all that is required for our righteousness. Many people struggle with the idea of God's wrath. But it is an is escapable part of the gospel. It is the bad news that makes the good news necessary. In fact God's wrath:

demonstrates God’s justice, serves as a warning to sinners, displays the glorious nature of God’s plan of redemption, demonstrates the love God has for us, and it give great power to the gospel. Listen to this week's message. Romans 9:19-29

John Stott once wrote “Most of our problems arise and seem insoluble because our image of God is distorted”. The truth is our image of God is distorted because our view of God is was too low. We tend to want to bring God down to our level and make him like us. But if we are ever going to understand God and how he does what he does we need to learn that God is vastly greater than the limits of our imagination.

Has the word of God failed? That is the question asked by those who seek to earn God's favor by their own efforts. But the answer is absolutely not. The Word of God has not failed because it is God and his grace that brings mankind into his family. Being a child of God has never been about biology, or nationality or ethnicity or effort. It is easy to love those who love us back, but what about those who oppose us? What about those who make our lives hard? The truth is those people need our love and they need the gospel as desperately as anyone else. In Romans 9 we see Paul is broken hearted for the very people who have rejected him and persecuted him. His love for them causes him to continue to pray for them, and proclaim the gospel to them even in the face of their opposition to him. He continues to stand firm on the truth of the gospel trusting that it is the power of God to save. Listen to this week's message Romans 9:1-6a.

If God is for us, then who can be against us? I know you have heard that quote before but have you really thought about what that means? God is the all powerful, all knowing, sovereign creator of the entire universe. He has no equal in heaven or on earth. If He then, has saved you and brought you into his family and has given you His Spirit as a guarantee of your redemption, then who can do anything to change that? Who can accuse you in the court of heaven? Who can condemn you? And who can separate you from the love of God? The answer is simple....NO ONE! It is absolutely true! The promise that God works all things out for your good if you love him. If you are in Christ this is a promise that has the power to ease your mind in difficult times. Because God is in control and you can depend on him to do everything he has promised. And he has promised that no matter what life throws your way, He can and will work it for your ultimate good!
