In 1970, a blind woman and her daughter went into the wrong government office in Los Angeles and this happy accident ended the ordeal of 13 year old Genie, who suffered unimaginable abuse and neglect since birth.  The rest of her story is more hopeful, but still not great as she got stuck between well meaning but ambitious scientists and social workers.
