    MESSAGE NOTES:

    1 Thessalonians 4
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

    Rest
    1 Chronicles 10:4–5

4 Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and ||abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

    1 Kings 2:10
10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in ythe city of David.

    1 Kings 11:43
43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

    1 kings 16:17-19
17 So Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah. 18 And when Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house over him with fire and died, 19 because of his sins that he committed, doing evil in the sight of the Lord, walking in the way of Jeroboam, and for his sin which he committed, making Israel to sin.

    Remember
    John 14:1-3
I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

Christians experience grief but without despair, sorrow but without defeat, sadness but without hopelessness - Tim Challies

    Hebrews 12
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Accept the Loss (find a place of peace)
Experience the pain ( allow yourself to heal and emotionally process)
Adjust in Life (we recognize nothing is ever the same.)

    Return
    John 14:1-3
14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God;[a] believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

    UNSHAKABLE FOUNDATION MESSAGE NOTES:

    (Part 4)

    Psalm 118:22, Ephesians 2:20, 1 Timothy 6:19, 2 Timothy 2:19, 1 Peter 2:6, Isaiah 28:16 AMPC

When you’re tempted, tested, and tried, who do you run to? What’s your foundation? What are your morals, values, and truths?

Is your foundation stable enough, secure enough, and safe enough for your marriage to last, children to inherit, and character to be admired and respected?

Is your foundation godly, holy, righteous, biblical, and Christlike?

What is under you that holds you up, supports you, and that you can put your weight on? Is it how you do life, what you stand for, and what you build on?

    I. The foundation of Christianity (Matthew 7:24-29):

    A. Hearing the word and doing it versus hearing the word and not doing it:

    1. You can’t have an unshakable foundation if all you do is hear, but you don’t do.

    2. How or what do you do when you don’t want to hear someone?

    · Selective hearing

    · Dull of hearing

    · Shallow hearing

    · Hard of hearing

    · Forgetful hearing

    · For a while hearing

    · Hearer, not a doer

    · Hear good, but rejection problems (2 Timothy 4:3 MSG)

    B. Hearer plus doer (James 1:23-25 TPT):

    1. Unshakable foundation, blessed, rewarded, fulfilled, significant.

    2. A doer who is doing is…

    · Teachable – learnable, growable

    · Acceptance – This is truth; will follow and obey

    · Application – This is for me; I’m talking to me

    · Practice – consistently do this, it’s a habit

    · Processes – Time, place, deadlines, amounts

    · Action – Believe it, behave it, belong to it

    · Obedience – Submit, surrender and serve

    MESSAGE NOTES:
Tonight as we continue our series on emotions, let’s look at one that’s very prevalent today, which is worry. If you were to ask me two years ago, when we first started hearing of a virus, most people would have shown little to no concern… That virus later became a pandemic and spread worldwide. Little to no concern became worry and for many anxiety, stress, depression, and extreme fear, which are the dangerous cousins of worry… Now fast forward two years later to the present and we’re dealing with the aftermath of this pandemic…, not to mention the political divide that has caused, I’m sad to say a divide in the Christian community… I’m concerned and so should you about where we are today, but before we allow this concern to slip into worry, anxiety, stress, depression, and extreme fear, let’s see what the Bible has to say about these damaging emotions that can cause harm to our mental well-being…

    Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.

7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It’s been said that worry is like an invading fog… You take a fog that’s 100 feet high and covers 10 square blocks…; only to find that the moisture in that fog is equal to an 8 ounce glass… the power of that 8 ounce glass of moisture can change your perspective and move you from concern… to worry, anxiety, and extreme fear. Worry has been called the thinking part of anxiety…

Before we move on to our scripture text and ways to win over worry and fear, let’s see a working definition for worry and anxiety:

    a) Worry is giving way to anxiety or unease; allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or trouble; a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems; a source of anxiety.

    b) Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome; a desire to do something, typically accompanied by unease; a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks.

Note: where you find anxiety, worry usually has a part. But not necessarily the opposite…

I share this difference of the two, although they have similar characteristics because some forms of anxiety require more attention than what will be covered tonight…

Our scripture text: Matthew 6:25-31, 33 (NKJV). These verses teach us about (1) having a proper perspective on life… (v 25), (2) having trust in God and His valuation of you… (v 26), (3) God’s example of providing for creation, with the intent of His surety in providing for us… (vs 28, 29, 30), and (4) warning signs of little faith, and a preoccupation with life’s necessities… (vs 30, 31), ref. Matthew 13:22 (MSG) 22 The seed cast in the weeds is the person who hears the kingdom news, but weeds of worry and illusions about getting more and wanting everything under the sun strangle what was heard, and nothing comes of it… This is Satan's most subversive tactic of all. These people hear and accept the word and allow it to take root in their hearts, giving hope of a harvest. But thorns grow up and choke out the growing seed. Thorns rob nutrition, water, light, and space from newly sprouting seeds. Distractions and conflicts rob new believers of time to reflect on and digest God's Word to grow from it, as well as robbing them of guidance and support from interaction with other Christians. Jesus described the "thorns": cares of the world and lure of wealth.

Worldly worries, the false sense of security brought on by prosperity, and the desire for material things plagued first-century disciples as they do us today. Daily routines overcrowd and materialistic pursuits distract believers, choking out God's Word so that it yields nothing.

    · Ways to win over worry and fear…

    a) Be honest about when your worry started…

    b) Work hard at shifting any worry to a concern…

    c) Work on a solution for the concern…

    d) Understand and prepare for life transitions…

    e) And learn to cast all of your cares upon Him…

1 Peter 5:7 (TLB) 7 Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.

    MESSAGE NOTES (Part 3)

    Unshakable, Unmovable, Impenetrable Foundation

    1 Corinthians 3:11, Proverbs 22:28

What has grown that was covered up? What has been unearthed that was once sealed?

What happened to make you build close to cliffs that are sinking, tilting, or shifting?

    How does that happen?

    · Power over principal

    · Popularity over morals

    · Fun over values

    · Feelings over truth

    · Cleverness over righteousness

What’s the answer to the Christian? It’s our diet—what we feed on, our daily intake. Are you feeding on junk food, fast food, or real food?

Today, we see societal decay, cultural decay, and a civilization of decay. It threatens once godly morals, traditions, values, and character.

If we studied history and the downfall of kingdoms, we’d see obsession with sex and perversion, haughtiness, overly self-confident, overspending, debt, government corruption, political instability, idolatry, and dependence on the government’s help.

What kind of world will your children and grandchildren inherit?

    I. The comparison between the wise man and the foolish man (Matthew 7:24): The difference is the foundation.

    A. Being wise or foolish has nothing to do with education, degrees, title, looks, skill, IQ, income, or intellect. It has to do with attitude, behaviors, habits, and choices.

    1. Fools believe the wisdom of the world is wiser, smarter, and

better than God. (1 Cor. 3:19, Romans 1:22, James 3:15)

    B. The Differences: (Psalm 53:1)

    1. Bringing joy, peace, and delight vs. sorrow, grief, and pain. Proud vs. ashamed. (Proverbs 10:1 MSG)

    2. Elders, counselors, and friend’s correction vs. what feels good. (Proverbs 15:5 MSG)

    3. The wise care; the foolish are careless. (Proverbs 14:8 MSG)

    4. The wise have morals; the foolish have no morals. (Proverbs 14:9 MSG)

    5. Companions reveal who is wise and who is foolish. (Proverbs 13:20 NLT)

    6. The foolish can’t control anger/emotions. (Proverbs 12:16 NLT)

    7. Honest vs. dishonest, integrity vs. cheating. (Jeremiah 17:11 NLT)

    8. Repents, learns, and gets better vs. repeats folly. (Proverbs 26:11 NIV)

    9. Don’t say one thing but do another. (Luke 11:39,40)

    C. Differences between the wise and the foolish: (Matthew 25:1-10)

    1. The wise are hardworking, not lazy. They don’t expect a handout.

    2. The wise live by the extra and are prepared.

    3. The wise don’t think they are the exception, or that rules don’t apply to them.

    4. The wise live by priorities; they can say “No.”

    5. The wise listen without defending.

    MESSAGE NOTES:

    Genesis 4
    English Standard Version
    Cain and Abel

4 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, “I have gotten[a] a man with the help of the Lord.” 2 And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of (A)the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel also brought of (B)the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord (C)had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but (D)for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 (E)If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” 8 Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, (H)“I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?” 10 And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.” 13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” 15 Then the Lord said to him, “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him. 16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

    A - Annoyed

    N - Neglected

    G - Guilty

    E - Embarrassed

    R- Resentful

Do not say, "I cannot help having a bad temper." Friend, you must help it. Pray to God to help you overcome it at once, for either you must kill it, or it will kill you. You cannot carry a bad temper into heaven.

    Man’s RESPONSE
    Proverbs 29:11

    11
A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back

    Proverbs 15:1
    15
A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

    Proverbs 14:17
A quick-tempered person does foolish things,
and the one who devises evil schemes is hated.

    Biblical Response
I can forgive, but I cannot forget, is only another way of saying, I will not forgive. Forgiveness ought to be like a cancelled note - torn in two, and burned up, so that it never can be shown against one.

    Numbers 14:18
18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’

    Ephesians 4:26
26 (A)Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

    Ecclesiastes 7:9
Be not quick in your spirit to become angry,
for anger lodges in the heart[a] of fools.

    Ephesians 4:31
31 (A)Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

    MESSAGE NOTES:
    UNSHAKABLE FOUNDATION

    Psalm 11:3
We all know the foundation of any structure is the key. Today, our nation has problems. We have no foundation. No good foundation, but a weak foundation. Today, we have loss our foundation. It’s formed cracks, gaps, and breaks because of neglect, passivity, and indifference.

    · Anti-God
    · Anti-Bible
    · Anti-Christ
    · Anti-theology
    · Anti-absolutes
    · Anti-responsibility and expectation
    · Anti-oath, promises, vows, and commitments
    · Anti-truth, honesty, and integrity
    · Anti-morals
    · Anti-celibacy
    · Anti-pro-life or pro-choice
    (Revelation 3:3, 2 Peter 3:1, Proverbs 22:28

    Foundation:
    · Is your belief system that you are building life?
    · It’s what is underneath you that you build to sustain and secure you.
    · It’s what you hold on to and what and who holds you up in good and bad times.
    · It’s what or who bears the weight in your life.
    · It’s your dependence or support system to keep you from falling or failing.
(1 Corinthians 9-15 MSG and TPT)

America was once a Christian nation. The churches in America are more liberal, humanistic, secularistic, and materialistic beliefs. It is said that only 25% of the world:

    · Believe in the trinity.
    · Believe the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
    · Believe Jesus’ sacrifice and atonement for sins is the only means of salvation.
    · Believe in the infallible absolutes of scripture.
    · Believe in Heaven, hell, judgment, punishment, and eternal life.

    2. You don’t wait until the storm builds.
    3. The foundation to endure a storm are not done quickly, speedily, or easily.
    4. Some storms are predictable, and some storms are unpredictable. Just be ready and prepared.
    5. The same storm velocity and intensity hit everyone.
    6. Quality of the foundation determines the outcome.
    7. No one is responsible for your foundation that endured the storm.

    MESSAGE NOTES:
    The Story of Saul –
God has placed inside of us LEGITIMATE NEEDS
Identity – We are children of God
Security – Emotional, Physical, & Eternal
Intimacy – Emotional, Physical, & Spiritual
    Companionship – Divine & Human
    Purpose – Fulfilling Work
    Legacy – Fruit

Our culture makes us believe that having these needs makes us week and looks to fill them with their substitutes.

    John Eldredge Wrote:
To find God, you must look with all your heart. To remain present to God, you must remain present to your heart. To hear His voice, you must listen with all your heart. To love Him, you must love with all your heart. You cannot be the person God meant you to be, and you cannot live the life He meant you to live, unless you live from the heart.

The Enemy’s plan from the beginning was to assault the heart… Make them so busy they ignore the heart. Wound them so deeply they don’t want a heart. Twist their theology so they despise the heart. Take away their courage. Destroy their creativity. Make intimacy with God impossible for them.

    The heart = Your Faith
What happens when these needs are not truly met?

Our emotions are to be treated as gauges, not guides

They are to report to you, not dictate to you.

    Emotions

The World Says – Follow Them
Religious Legalism Says – Ignore Them
God Says – Give Them To Me

    Psalm 56:8 NLT
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle ….

    1Peter 5:7 NIV
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Following our emotions often leads to illegitimate reactions
    Rage / Hostile Confrontations Gluttony
    Judging Shutting Down
    Fantasizing Isolation

We must go to the manual and see what God says about our areas of need.

    Identity

    1 Peter 2:9 ESV
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

    1 John 3:1-3 ESV
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears[a] we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

    Isaiah 43:1
But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

    Security
    John 10:28,29
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me,[a] is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.

    Isaiah 54:17 NASB
No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And you will condemn every tongue that [a]accuses you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.

    Romans 8:35-39 NIV
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Intimacy
    Hosea 11:4 NIV
I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them.

    Romans 9:25 NASB
as He also says in Hosea: “I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’ And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”

    Companionship
    Proverbs 18:24 ESV
A man of many companions may come to ruin, there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

    Revelation 3:20 ESV
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

    Purpose & Legacy
    Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

    Psalm 103:17 ESV
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children,

    Psalm 112:1-3 ESV
Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments! 2 His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
