In an episode that we definitely thought was scheduled to publish on time than didn't, the boys start off discussing their shortcomings as to the challenge they issued each other in Episode 4. This expands into some talk about critical race theory, Watchmen, and Heavy by Kiese Laymon before we get into the actually comic book talk. 

As the conversation gets going, Caleb talks about how comic books came into his life in middle school, how he grew up liking a different Flash than is on TV, and Aqua Lad.  When Sawyer brings up getting a detention because he once said "Superman: Red Son" in Spanish class, the boys have a version of the stereotypical "Heath Ledger WAS Joker" conversation. For the quiz, Caleb attempts to trick Sawyer with some obscure comic book titles in hopes that he can't guess what they're about.

After almost two years (and somehow only 20 episodes), Pause for Effect is officially coming to an end.  Thank you for all of your support over the past two years, and I hope to have something you want to tune into again somewhere down the road. 

This week on the podcast, we are here to remind you that police violence and brutality still exists, even though the protests have started to die down. As we recorded on the weekend of all of the marches back in June, some of the information is outdated, but left in for the sake of clarity. 

TODAY, Sawyer talks about growing up white and failing to notice microaggressions of racism, having openly racist people in his life, and being a victim of American ignorance. Caleb throws Black superheros into the mix, while also discussing how watching diverse television as children gave him a unique perspective, and how Gattaca could actually be the future of the human race. To wrap it up, the boys wrap it up with an analysis of how the film and television industry have a fine line to walk in terms of historic portrayals, and their disappointment with the lack of leadership at this moment in history.

Another episode that's three days late... BUT HEY, at least we're consistent, right?

Eve Kelly is a Stage Manager and Theatrical Technician with a BA in Theatre & Fine Arts from the University at Albany. Thus far in her career, Eve has worked for 59E59 Theatres, Abron's Art Center, EST, On Sit Opera, AFO, Loire Valley, ArtsPower, Duda Production, CapRep, Troy Foundry Theatre, BSC, and Park Playhouse.  Today, Eve sits down with Sawyer to discuss how she accidentally stumbled into the world of theatre after initially being an art major, everything she loves about Disney+, and what it's like to be in close, personal proximity to someone with celebrity status.  Sawyer brings up a connection they have outside of their work together on Turning 15 On the Road to Freedom, owning up to how he previously acted toward a professor with whom he had a creative difference.
