Most companies would celebrate having the biggest gaming franchises in the world. Microsoft? They’re risking it all—pouring $80 billion on acquisitions, only to face layoffs, stalled projects, and a sinking console sales outlook. In this episode, Derrick, Amy, and Sterling pull back the curtain on the chaotic future of Xbox, revealing why the gaming giant’s next chapter might be its last—unless they pivot hard. From the shocking truth behind Project Helix—a rumored console-PC hybrid that may never see the light of day—to the fallout from recent studio sell-offs and layoffs, we dissect how endless expansion, misguided acquisitions, and prioritizing “value” over creativity are destroying Microsoft’s gaming vision. You’ll discover how Microsoft’s unchecked spending is inflating costs on everything from chip shortages to marketing, pushing console prices into the stratosphere and making true innovation impossible. We break down how these massive moves threaten the entire industry, risking a shift away from dedicated consoles to insubstantial, subscription-based ecosystems. We also explore the collapse of core first-party titles, the declining relevance of Xbox hardware, and what the future really holds for gamers. Is this the end of dedicated consoles, or just a brutal reset?
