Hey Educators,

It's been a minute, but I am back and I am serving up bite-sized PD for the Soul. On today's bonus episode, you'll hear about a teacher who made a very small change and the impact it had on his classroom engagement. Stay tuned to this series, as I will be dropping updates on their journey and my focus, as their coach, on the small changes that can help us maximize student performance.

How can I use activities to build relationships in my classroom and in my school?

• Create opportunities where your students have the floor and actually listen to what they have to say.
• Make a mental note of anything you can personally relate to and share your connections.
• Build upon your connections by following up, ex: use what you learn in future interactions

Welcome to the Professional Development for the Soul Podcast.

I believe every new teacher should want to be impactful on day 1.

I’m Laneshia Boone and I’m on a mission to make every new teacher I meet realize just how powerful they are. 

I started the PD for the Soul podcast to address the million dollar question: how can brand new teachers walk into their classrooms prepared to help their students bear fruit?

New teachers have a huge impact on student achievement. Whether that impact is positive or negative is a reflection of the supports in place. 

I’ve facilitated training and had several dozen conversations with teachers who felt unprepared. Many of whom have since left the profession. The lack of consistency and experience in classrooms has dire consequences for the students in them. 

Did you know that one “bad” year requires two consecutively stellar years to make up for unfinished learnings? Imagine being an administrator with few stellar teachers in place. 

I created PD for the Soul to help new teachers map out a plan of fruitful impact. Ever heard that it’s less expensive to keep an existing customer than to attract a new one? Same thing applies here, the cost associated with supporting and grooming new teachers to success is far less than losing teacher after teacher due to overwhelm and poor prep.

Is it possible to be a rockstar in your first year? Absolutely. 

Is it likely that there will be hurdles along the way? Most definitely. 

Will this podcast be with you every step of the way? You better believe it. 

On this show, I will not be sharing stuffy, outdated classroom advice because no one wants to listen to that. Instead I’ll provide short listens chocked full of current research and easily implementable action items. If you’re truly ready to make teaching your superpower, I’m going to plant the seeds so that you can bear the fruit.
