To bring God’s blessing into our lives and the world around us, we must align ourselves with Jesus and His Word. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught His disciples how to live as children of God, bringing the values and the blessings of God’s Kingdom to earth. His teachings reveal that God is far more concerned with what is going on in our hearts than He is about our behavior alone. Humans have always been tempted to live to please others and to gain honor and notoriety from people. Jesus addresses this by challenging why we do what we do and the motives of our hearts.

One of the primary goals of a Christian life is to be transformed into the image of Christ. In scripture, this idea of “transformation” is similar to the change (metamorphosis) of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly or a tadpole becoming a frog. When we allow God to change what we believe, we can change how we behave. Galatians 4:19 describes this process through relationships, repetition, and resilience. Godly relationships allow our hearts to be shaped by the right people. The repetition of going to church, reading His word, and other spiritual disciplines instill life-changing habits. Resilience produces godly character as we continue in the process without quitting, even when it becomes uncomfortable.
