I tried out some new (to me) video editing software to create a video of my little hike, taken on August 7 2022, in Steiermark, Austria. I haven't explored all the options of the software yet, but this was my first little attempt with it.
This video, titled "Heulantschrunde 07/08/2022," is a scenic slideshow documenting a 14.4 km hike in the Austrian Alps, specifically the Teichalm - Heulantsch-Runde in the Styrian Almenland.
The video opens with a title card featuring a smiling woman in a gray cap and sunglasses, followed by a close-up of a hiking map showing a loop trail that connects several peaks and landmarks, including Heulantsch, Grubbauerkogel, and the Stoahandlhüttn cabin.
The journey begins with sweeping views of lush, rolling green hills under a bright blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds. The trail alternates between wide gravel paths through open meadows and narrower dirt tracks winding through dense, tall pine forests. At several points, the camera captures small, clear streams cutting through the grass and a distant wind turbine spinning on a ridge.
Frequent yellow directional signs keep the viewer on track, pointing toward destinations like Sommeralm and Teichalm. Along the way, there are charming cultural details: a small wooden religious shrine enclosed by a rustic fence and a brown-and-white cow grazing peacefully in a wide-open pasture with mountains in the background.
The hiker, identified as Cynni, shares several cheerful selfies throughout the trip, wearing a purple hydration vest and gear suited for a sunny day on the trails.
A mid-hike stop is highlighted at the Stogahandlhüttn, a cozy wooden mountain cabin. Visuals include a cold glass of Apfelschorle in a Gösser beerglass on a wooden outdoor table, the cabin’s sign (featuring the Puntigamer beer logo), and a green and white Styrian flag waving in the breeze.
The climax of the hike shows the arrival at a large, dark wooden summit cross (Gipfelkreuz). Hikers are seen resting at its base, overlooking a massive panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. The video also shows a zoomed-in view of a large lodge and parking area (likely the Teichalm area) far below in the valley.
The video concludes with a Komoot summary screen, detailing the hike’s statistics:
Time: 3 hours and 57 minutes
Elevation: 540 m ascent and 560 m descent
The final seconds of the video quickly recap the highlights—the mountain views, the Apfelschorle, the summit cross, and the smiling hiker—set to an upbeat, acoustic soundtrack.
