A look at a cool and very early laptop computer that has a thriving enthusiast community around it today.
I've been wanting a standalone Panasonic answering machine for quite a while, and couldn't pass this guy up on eBay. Let's check it out.
As mentioned in the video, yes - you can call this machine! Until October 16, 2021, this is connected to my second phone line, ready to receive your calls and messages. Details at 40:14.

This was found on a U-Matic-S cassette at the TV station, and digitized in a live stream a few months ago. It's not within the scope of The New Brunswick Community Television Archive, so I'm uploading it here for preservation.
Based on the electronically-generated slide that appears after the video, I'm guessing this video was shown internally at Fredericton Cablevision in the 1980s.
I've been able to find zero information on this video, or on the ETV Centre of the London (Ontario) Board of Education. The only information I have found about Don Grey was that he was active in the independent filmmaking community in London, Ontario in the early and mid 1970s. My guess of the timeframe this video was produced is based on the techniques presented, and the use of photos of the flight of Apollo 11 (1969).
Eva, who is apparently able to read my mind and know my tech wishes, generously donated some items which are going to be very fun (and for one, very useful) to have. Videos to come on each item in the future.
I found this vintage photography flash lamp in the thrift store. Let's give it its one and only ignition.
These speakers were retired from the TV station, and one of them has a dead woofer. Let's fix it, see how they sound, and see if there's a significant difference between the original woofer and the new replacement.
I got these lamps, which appear to be brand new, at the ReStore. Let's hook them to an appropriate ballast and see them lit up.
We unboxed this awesome Norstar phone system in the last video; now let's test it, but with analog phones since I currently don't have access to my Norstar phones.
A viewer sold me a much newer and more capable Norstar key telephone system, which extras, for a very generous price. Let's unbox it and see what we have.
Went to the ReStore recently, and found some cool light bulbs, including a couple that will be featured in a future video.
