President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs forced an increase in taxes to generate needed funds. The Revenue Act of 1935 introduced the Wealth Tax, a new progressive tax that took up to 75 percent of the highest incomes. Many wealthy people used loopholes in the tax code. The Revenue Act of 1937 cracked down on tax evasion by revising tax laws and regulations.

When Americans hear “property tax,” they tend to think taxes on houses and other real estate. And for good reason. While property taxes are often levied on motor vehicles, and occasionally on business net worth, the vast majority of property taxes in the U.S. today apply only to real estate. It was not always so.

The Great Wave of Immigration:

The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw the largest wave of immigration in U.S. history, known as the "Great Wave." During this period, millions of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe, as well as Asia, arrived in the United States. They sought refuge from poverty, religious persecution, and political instability in their home countries. Ellis Island and Angel Island served as major immigration processing centers, where immigrants underwent medical examinations and legal inspections before entering the country.

In the U.S., managed care insurance plans require policyholders to get their care from a network of designated healthcare providers. If patients seek care outside the network, they must pay a higher percentage of the cost.

This past Black History Month, millions of students are told the story of how America abolished slavery 159 years ago with ratification of the 13th Amendment. The story draws an upward trajectory of racial equality in America. The problem is the story isn't true. We never actually abolished slavery.
