  • #1 Intro to People My Dog Would Like
People My Dog Would Like is a chance to listen to me, Lizzie Mettam speaking with interesting people about their game changing ideas, fresh initiatives, startups and out of the box movements with an eye on the future. People in our big wide world are concerned about the future of work, leadership and the pace of change which contribute to their personal stresses and I'm hoping this podcast is on opportunity to sit around a digital campfire and talk positively about the endless and unimagined possibilities that we have unfolding in front of us right now. So grab a chair, a stick and some marshmallows and join in the listen to the conversation with me around my digital campfire where anything can happen.

  • Paul Bishop talking about preferred futures and what this means to him and his electorate in Queensland
My guest for this episode is Paul Bishop, the founder of Arts Evolution (and their Chief Inspiration Officer), Director of The Red Place and an elected councillor for the city of Redland in Queensland. Arts Evolution is an ethical enterprise approach to many of the existing and emerging challenges facing the arts, the community, the non-profit sector and local small-medium enterprises as the global economy forces us into a ‘climate of change’. He and i met recently through a futures program on the Gold Coast which inspired and left me thinking he's got a lot to share, and we have a lot to learn from him.In this interview we talk about how we need to focus on ourselves in our local communities to drive economic and cultural regeneration. He talked about his evolution as an actor into his current role at Redland City Counil. He questions society's cultural and environmental values and spends time in this episode discussing how focusing in on the small business owner, family and community is a better or preferred path for future economic prosperity. Keen on investing in our regions and communities, he's a creative thinker who raises some important questions around planning for our future cities in Australia, so have a listen and check out the show notes below for more information about what we discussed.Show notes:Paul BishopArts EvolutionThe Red PlaceSohail InayatullahColin RussoGold Coast City CouncilDavid ThrosbyTransition Towns AustraliaBusiness Alliance for Local Living EconomiesMichael SchumanJudy WicksSkoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship

  • Conversation with Steve Sammartino on Why We are All Entrepreneurs
This week’s episode is with Steve Sammartino. Steve is one of Australia’s most respected futurists and business technologists who drives important conversations around embracing our future and the endless possibilities it holds for all of us. Steve has spoken to well over 100,000 people around the world in the past two years. Uniquely combining anthropology and technology, Steve will leave you excited about what the future holds. In this episode we talk about his new book The Lessons School Forgot, a survival manifesto for an era of AI.

We talk about the new economy and how everyone needs to redefine their place in the world, to be the entrepreneur that has been slowly taken away from them through the systems we have created in our world. Some really interesting insights into what he teaches his own kids in a time of unprecedented and exponential change. You may also want to check out his first book The Great Fragmentation, another cracking and insightful read.

  • Conversation with Paul Fairhead – Intrepid thinker and CEO of YakTrak

This week’s episode is with Paul Fairhead, intrepid thinker and CEO of new startup, yaktrak. In this episode we talk about Paul’s long stint as an entrepreneur in Vietnam, the soft skills he believes are what make us human and how those skills need to be cultivated and cherished in a future economy. He talks about his transition to work in Australia, the differences he sees between Melbourne and Sydney, the importance of investing time in businesses that can scale and his desire to give back to build the kind of tribe Australia needs in the startup space. He really admires the meanderings of Umair Haique and misses his days as a lacrosse player, where he learnt a lot about people, life and business without knowing it.
