On this episode, we sit down with a family that defines strength, grit, and community—Charlie Jo Coon, her mom Cori, and her dad Steven, Cal Coast lifetime members and part of our Cal Coast Community.

Charlie was born strong—but hours before discharge, her world flipped. A failed pulse ox test led to an urgent diagnosis: transposition of the great arteries, a severe congenital heart defect, plus several other complications. What followed was a 16-hour open-heart surgery, another 6-hour procedure, and 92 days in the hospital—before her parents could even take her home.

They’ve since faced the challenge of hospital visits, high costs of medicine along with everyday life. Through it they have leaned into the support of their family and community.

Today, Charlie is gearing up for another surgery—and we’re honored to share her story of resilience, and how our Cal Coast Beer family and the entire community came together to lift her up.

In this episode of People, Pints & Possibilities, we sit down with two proud Paso Roblans—Mark Perry and Brett Butterfield—whose 60 year friendship and dedication to community seems unending. Both are Paso High Bearcat alumni and recipients of the prestigious Roblan of the Year award, but their impact reaches far beyond the awards of recognition.

Mark Perry has spent over 30 years with Paso Waste and Recycle and has been a loyal fixture of the community serving on multiple Boards and running community events. Mark plays a key role in preserving local traditions, including keeping the beloved Old Timers Barbecue alive—a cherished event honoring those who’ve lived in the Paso area for 50+ years as well as being the announcer for the Pioneer Day Parade.

Brett Butterfield is a lifelong entrepreneur whose contributions shaped the local business scene. From The Ravine Water Park, A1 Tanks, and multiple additional businesses in SLO County. Brett’s ventures have brought fun, jobs, and community connection to the Central Coast. Each summer, he employs over 350 locals and hosts multiple fundraisers that give back to the place he calls home.

This episode is about pride of place, staying rooted, and giving back. It’s a celebration of two Bearcats who never left—and never stopped serving.

Six generations strong, the Brushes have helped shape the character of this town through civic service, small business, and tradition. From running the post office and leading the Paso Robles Trail Ride, to starting cornerstone businesses like RC Heaton, K-Brush Concrete and Brush BBQ, the Brushes are more than local—they’re legacy.

We focus on Kevin Brush, a key figure behind the trail ride and a quiet force behind the scenes at Cal Coast. Through their friendship with Jeff Gallagher, Kevin, Justin, Jeremy and the Brush family became instrumental in helping Cal Coast grow—especially through the chaos of COVID. From pouring patios to bringing horses to the brewery on Pioneer Day, their story is about hard work, humility, and showing up when it counts.

Before Cal Coast Beer Co ever poured its first pint, Doug Burkett took possibilities to a whole new level. In this episode, we sit down with the founder and owner of Iron Oaks Winery to talk about what it was like to bet on a vision in 2019, when our space was more of a greased up garage than destination.

Doug shares stories from those early days, the unexpected chaos that came with opening, and how his leap of faith helped shape the culture on the Cal Coast Campus. In this heartfelt episode, we sit down with the Big Cat - Jeff Gallagher, the owner of Central Coast Concrete Cutting Company who played a pivotal behind-the-scenes role in bringing Cal Coast Beer Co. to life. When the brewery hit a financial wall mid-project, Jeff stepped in with tools, time, and talent. 

Through his generosity, he helped turn what could have been a stalled dream into a community hub. We talk about Jeff's early years,  being a twin, the value of showing up when it matters most, and how acts of generosity can leave a lasting imprint—both in concrete and in community.
