The principals of the incident command system (ICS) do not change. How and when we apply them do. What shapes our decisions are the complexities different types of incidents bring. In this episode I share the "Between the Slides 5" for prospective ICS 400 students and some of the principals included in the revised April 2019 manual and that will be taught during the in person course.
"Between the Slides 5" for this episode:
* ICS principals apply across all complexities, e.g. Planning "P", Foundational Four
* Consider what's making the incident complex
* Determine complexity strategy based on the driver, e.g. geography, political boundaries, etc.
* Determine your area of operations (AO) for an Area Command
* Bring your "A game" and your "A team"
Key Time Stamps:
* 00:03:15 - Come back to basics
* 00:08:50 - Complex modalities to dispense medication in Parnellville
* 00:16:45 - Try to optimize Operations
* 00:25:10 - Roster truly qualified team members
Kudos to the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) for their great student manual section:
