LUKE 8:1-3 He continued according to plan, traveled to town after town, village after village, preaching God’s
kingdom, spreading the Message. The Twelve were with him. There were also some women in their company
who had been healed of various evil afflictions and illnesses: Mary, the one called Magdalene, from whom
seven demons had gone out; Joanna, wife of Chuza, Herod’s manager; and Susanna—along with many others
who used their considerable means to provide for the company. (MSG)

GOD ALWAYS USES PEOPLE TO FULFILL HIS PLANS
    HELP WANTED

MATTHEW 4:18-20   One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two
brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a
living.  19  Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”  20  And they
left their nets at once and followed him. (NLT)

EPHESIANS 2:10 God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in
the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. (MSG)

ACTS 13:36 “ Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried
with his ancestors and his body decayed. (NIV)

MATTHEW 20:28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a

MATTHEW 25:34-36   “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father,
inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.  35  For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was
thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.  36  I was naked, and you
gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ (NLT)

MATTHEW 25:40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my
brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ (NLT)

WHEN YOU LIVE AN OPEN-HANDED LIFE GOD WILL KEEP YOUR HANDS FULL
    HEARTS SOFT

MATTHEW 9:35-38 Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places,
reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked
out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a
huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!” (MSG)

    Ways to Praise

Genesis 4:1-5 - Now Adam[a] had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said, “With the Lord’s help, I have produced[b] a man!” 2 Later she gave birth to his brother and named him Abel.
When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground. 3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, 5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. NLT

Matthew 15:8-9 - “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ NIV

1 Corinthians 14:26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. NIV

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people. NIV

    BUILDING ALTARS

Exodus 20:24 (NLT) Build for me an altar made of earth, and offer your sacrifices to me—your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep and goats, and your cattle. Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you.

    Significance of Altars
    • Altars were built for future generations – our kids need to see
    • Altars were built to take territory for a deity – our altars make spiritual conquest
    • Altars were built in significant moments - so I don’t forget
    • Altars were built to sacrifice something on – wherever there’s an altar, there’s sacrifice

    1. Build altars in moments of transition

    2. Build altars in moments of truth

    3. Build altars in moments of tragedy

Job 1:20 (NLT) Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship.

    4. Build altars in moments of trial

    5. Build altars in moments of triumph

Exodus 17:14-15 (NLT) After the victory, the Lord instructed Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”).

How do you build an altar?

    1. Tear down idols
    2. Build an altar of earth
    3. Prepare a sacrifice
