Psalm 20:4 May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed. (NLT)

Proverbs 21:5 Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. (NLT)

Three components of a good plan:

    1. The right plan involves getting on the right path

Proverbs 14:12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. (NLT)

    2. The right plan includes having the right priorities

Proverbs 14:12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. (NLT)

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)

    3. The right plan involves having the right perspective

Luke 11:1-4 1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” 2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Acknowledging Prayer | Lynn Wheeler

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, (NIV)

    Progression of communication:
    A. Small talk
    B. Sharing what we know
    C. Sharing feelings
    D. Sharing who you are

    Acknowledging Prayer:

    1. Acknowledges my relationship with God.

Hebrews 4:15-16 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our
weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did
not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (NIV)

    2. Acknowledges my reliance on God.

"I never pray more than 20 minutes, but I never go 20 minutes without praying"
    (Smith Wigglesworth)

Miracle = Something that requires divine intervention

James 5:13-15 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing
songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over
them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will
make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be
    forgiven. (NIV)

Anointing = An impartation of God’s spirit into my spirit to help me accomplish the
task He has called me to do

Matthew 5:44 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, (NIV)

Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you
will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

    3. Acknowledges my need to remain in God.

John 15:4-5 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must
remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much
fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (NIV)

Daniel 6:10 10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to
his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got
down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. (NIV)

The Mess of The Unexpected | Herbert Cooper

Luke 1:26-33 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." (NIV)

Two Important Lessons on Dealing with The Mess of The Unexpected

    1. You should expect the unexpected

    2. Your unexpected situation can create confusion

Luke 1:29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. (NIV)

Luke 1:34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" (NIV)

Three Great Responses During Unexpected Seasons

    1. Trust God during unexpected seasons

Luke 1:28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." (NIV)

Luke 1:38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her. (NIV)

    2. Find a godly and encouraging friend

Luke 1:39–45 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” (NIV)

    3. Replace worry with worship

Luke 1:46–50 Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. 47 How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! 48 For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. 49 For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. 50 He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. Matthew 1:18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. (NLT)

    1. Be realistic with your expectations.

Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (NIV)

    2. Be guarded with your emotions.

Matthew 1:19 - Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. (NLT)

Proverbs 12:16 – A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted. (NLT)

Proverbs 19:11 – Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. (NLT)

    3. Be intentional with your interaction.

Matthew 1:19 - Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. (NLT)

Matthew 1:20-23 As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” (NLT)

Colossians 3:12-13 - 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (NIV)

Matthew 6:14-15 - 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (NIV)

Philippians 2:1-4 - Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. (NLT)

Romans 12:18 - 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. (NIV)
