    2. Deal with your anger right away.

Ephesians 4:26 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. (NIV)

Psalm 109:1-5 My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, 2 for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues.
3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

Psalm 109:4 but I am a man of prayer. (NIV)

    3. Don’t give the devil a foothold.

Ephesians 4:26-27 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. (NIV)

10-14-18 - Kill The Spider - Getting Over Gluttony - Scotty Gibbons

Gluttony - habitual greed or excess in eating.

    1. The diet of your life reveals the god you worship.

Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. (ESV)

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (ESV)

1 Corinthians 6:12-13 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 13 13 You say, “Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.” (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.  (NLT)

    2. Physical health is a spiritual priority.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies. (NIV)

    3. Let your cravings work for you not against you.

Proverbs 16:26 A laborer’s appetite works on his behalf, for his hunger drives him on. (TLV)

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; (ESV)

Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired. (MSG)

How to Kill The Spider of Gluttony:

    1. Evaluate your health.

    2. Prioritize your health.

    3. Get a friend to go with you on the journey.

    Kill The Spider: Envy

    1. Envy robs you of peace and joy

1 Samuel 18:7-8 As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.” 8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” (NIV)

Proverbs 14:30 A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (NIV)

    2. Envy causes you to complain

    3. Envy creates conflict in your relationships

1 Samuel 19:10 Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape. (NIV)

1 Samuel 20:32–33 “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father. 33 But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David. (NIV)

James 3:14–16 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. (NIV)

Titus 3:3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. (NLT)

    4. Envy distracts you from God’s purpose

1 Samuel 18:9 And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David. (NIV)

3 Ways You Kill The Spider Of Envy

James 3:14–15 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. (NIV)

    1. Stop playing the comparison game

Galatians 6:4-5 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct. (NLT)

    2. Celebrate other people’s successes

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. (NIV)

    3. Focus on the good instead of the bad

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
