Animals appear throughout Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, revealing something beautiful about the character of God. Psalm 104 stands out as the only song in Israel's hymnal that declares God created elements of nature for their own purposes, not merely for human benefit. Every creature, from the sparrow to the leviathan, has a place and a purpose in His design. Jesus Himself referenced animals constantly in His teaching, and He made clear that not even a sparrow falls to the ground outside of the Father's notice. Creation is not a backdrop for human life but a gift, a revelation, and an ongoing declaration of God's creativity and joy. We are called not to consume creation but to steward it faithfully, reflecting our relationship with the Creator Himself.|

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:34-40 |

What does it truly mean to love your neighbor? A group of youth and adults from Perinton Presbyterian Church discovered the answer through a week of hands-on service in Fayette County, West Virginia. Rooted in Matthew 25, where Jesus declares that serving those in need is the same as serving Him, the trip became far more than a construction project. Relationships with homeowners like Joyce and Jeff's wife, Kim, revealed that people always matter more than projects. Youth who had never held a tool before returned home with new friendships, deeper faith, and changed hearts. The experience is a reminder that mission is not limited to faraway places. Wherever God places us, we are called to be His hands and feet.|

The cross is one of the most recognized symbols in the world, but familiarity can cause us to lose sight of its true meaning. Jesus carried our sin, our guilt, and our brokenness in His own body so that we could be forgiven and made whole. That gift of grace is not something we earn. It is something we receive. In response, Jesus calls us to take up our cross daily, choosing His way over our own comfort and convenience. This is not one dramatic moment but a thousand small decisions made every day. Denying yourself does not mean you are worthless. It simply means Christ becomes the center rather than self. The cross is both a gift and a calling, reminding us that we are forgiven, we are loved, and we are shown how to live.|

Scripture Readings: Psalm 49:1-12, 16-20 and Luke 12:13-21 |

Life is not measured by what we own, yet it is easy to fall into the trap of believing that wealth and security can satisfy the soul. In Luke 12, Jesus warns against greed and tells the parable of a rich man who tears down his barns to build bigger ones, only to be called a fool by God that very night. The man made the mistake of speaking to his soul about his possessions, confusing material security with true salvation. Psalm 49 reinforces this truth, reminding us that no amount of wealth can follow us into eternity. Jesus calls us instead to be rich toward God, reorienting our priorities around His kingdom rather than our own comfort. The fruit of that kind of life is love, joy, peace, patience, and all the qualities that come from a soul rooted in God. Our souls are not for sale to wealth, status, or fear. True richness is found in justice, generosity, and a life that reflects the kingdom of God.|

Scripture Readings: John 15:1-17 |

Jesus did not call His disciples servants. He called them friends. In John 15, He uses the image of a vine and its branches to describe what it means to abide in Him, to remain rooted in His love the way a branch stays connected to its source. This friendship is not built on obligation or hierarchy but on love, mutual knowledge, and deep care. The hymns 'What a Friend We Have in Jesus' and 'Jesus Loves Me' were both born out of suffering, and they remind us that the friendship of Jesus meets us not in our best moments but in our worst ones. Because we are loved so deeply, we are called to carry that love into the world. This week, look for one specific opportunity to be the kind of friend to someone that Jesus is to you.|

This message was given by Mark Lockhart, an Elder & member of PPC. Jesus identified love as the defining mark of His followers, summarizing the entire law in two commands: love God with everything you have, and love your neighbor as yourself. This love is not limited to those who are easy to love. It extends even to enemies, expressed through blessing, prayer, and practical action. Drawing from the five love languages, there are five daily ways to put love into practice: words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, giving gifts, and physical presence. Each of these can be directed both toward God and toward the people around us. When we choose to love within our small circles of influence, we begin to manifest the kingdom of God in tangible ways. Love is not meant to stay as a theological idea. It is meant to be lived out, one encounter at a time.|

This message was given by Rick Dibble, a third generation missionary in Nigeria. Sharing the gospel is not reserved for pastors or missionaries. Every believer is called to spread the good news, and Jesus modeled a simple three-step approach: come and see, follow Me, and go and tell. Through the inspiring story of Raymond and Julia Dibble, who brought the gospel to the Igala people of Nigeria, we see what ordinary people with willing hearts can accomplish. Julia's death from illness led to the very first Igala convert, and Raymond's faithfulness eventually produced a complete Bible translation in the Igala language. The work he started continued to grow even after his passing, because he invested in training local believers to carry it forward. You do not need a seminary degree or special credentials to share your faith. You simply need an open and willing heart. Start by identifying your Jerusalem and praying for one person in your life who has not yet encountered the love of Christ.

Most people know December 25 as Christmas, but few know why that date was chosen. The answer is not rooted in pagan strategy but in a deep theological connection between creation, Passover, and the life of Jesus Christ. Early Christians recognized that the date of Jesus' conception aligned with the date of His crucifixion, both tied to the season of Passover. Nine months after March 25 brings us to December 25. Two independent streams of early Christianity arrived at this same conclusion, pointing to a God who designed the entire arc of salvation with intention. As Paul wrote to the Colossians, in Christ all things hold together. The birth of Jesus was not a seasonal event but a moment woven into the fabric of history from the very beginning of creation. |

Freedom is one of the most celebrated ideals in American life, but the Bible calls us to a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be free. In John 8:36, Jesus promises that those He sets free are truly free, and that freedom begins with confessing sin and walking in His ways. The Apostle Paul warned the Galatians not to use their freedom as an excuse for self-indulgence, but instead to use it to serve one another in love. True freedom is not the absence of limits. It is the presence of love, and it is only in Christ that we can be free indeed. |
