After releasing a press release disclosure last Wednesday, 7/22, ABS-CBN Corporation's stocks was back to trading on Thursday, 7/23, and lost big time. Same thing happened yesterday, 7/24, as it dipped further down to ₱7.64 per share. Although, the company has a solid plan in place on what their future would be like, there's a ton of uncertainty if they can deliver and be on pace to recover as a profitable business.

There are 4 big players in the Philippine airline industry and none of them were safe from the disruption and business decline that the coronavirus has caused. Although they're adjusting to the 'new normal', air travel's demand is still low and that's understandable as travelling isn't our priority right now. Two of those big players, Cebu Air and Philippine Airlines, are listed in the PSE. Obviously, their stock prices are both at an all time low due to the big decline in demand because of the pandemic. I hope this episode helps you decide if it's really worth risking betting on airline companies.

Last Friday, the Philippine Congress denied ABS-CBN's franchise renewal. Out of the 85 committee members, 70 voted in favor of the denial of the franchise renewal, 11 voted for the renewal, 2 voted to inhibit and 1 abstained from voting. Also, the Philippine Stock Exchange suspended the trading of ABS and ABSP stocks until the company publishes a full disclosure of the impact this will have on its business. Obviously, this is not a good look for the company as majority of its revenue comes from the News and Media Entertainment sector of its business. As soon as their stocks gets traded again, I believe that it'll take a hit and tank unless some good news surfaces beforehand.

Concepcion Industrial Corporation is a manufacturer and developer of air conditioners and refrigerators. Their brands include Carrier, Condura, Otis, Kelvinator, Midea and Toshiba. CIC was listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange back in 2013 and has paid out dividends to its shareholders since 2014. Its stock has a good capital gain potential and the business is still thriving (₱128M net income for the 1Q of 2020) despite the pandemic (COVID-19 / Coronavirus). The current market price of this stock is comparable to prices dating back in early 2014.
