You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

May 23, 2019Arthur Schopenhauer_1This is the big one to analyze. Seems to have been ugly, with venereal disease and argumentative. Also we see German society working in a time before modern psychological labels that it was later to generate. May 23, 2019Data dump on the ElementsAfter so much study, just rambling about the elements as I walk home. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
May 22, 2019New Scientist May 18 4An interesting delve into the inertia behind the Race concept. A piece on DNA of dog poo to track the poo and nab the owners. Quite clever lines. Some sweet article about kissing licking and hair grown. I am struggling to remember the other articles. May 22, 2019New Scientist May 18 3The take home message here is the how factors like ego and pride that get people into science leak out and ultimately make people and countries be a burden to the whole enterprise. As a quantum dude, I think the Axion solution to neutron dipole zero is just do it with quantum. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
May 22, 2019Feral CatsWarning! Don't listen to this if you love cats. Domestic cats gone wild are chomping through 24 million natives a year. The question asked by tourists about where are all the native animals in Australia will be greeted by a shrug of the shoulders and a cat burp. May 21, 2019New Scientist May 18 2The idea that the conditions in the open in NZ, will be different that the conditions in a lab for making the molecules for protolife just seems deeply deeply confused. The use of AI to correct the mistakes of AI seems to get things on track. I just don't think people are feeding the information in which is on the border of tricking human observers, ie have an image that 8 out of 10 humans correctly identify as a cat, and discard the ones at 7 or 9 , rather than picking the 10s. Just a thought. Looking at the carbon load, I think we can put the accounts and book keeping aside and ask how many tonnes are going in globally. Global problem = global solution. Seems right to me. May 21, 2019New Scientist May 18 12024 back to the Moon, but it seems a bit duller this time around and less impressive. There is environmental DNA testing of Lake health, but you have to read to the end of the article to see how the system is fooled. There is also a feel good article about an organ swap circuit involving 4 donor recipients and I found the ethics interesting to hear about. The DNA sampling to hunt for high blood pressure seems abit hap hazard, however I do like the idea of Finland screening only for diseases they can treat, It makes real financial sense. It makes me sad to read about the US and Iran it just seems madness. I wish I could remember all articles. May 20, 2019For JennyWhen I've reached the limit in sit down mental exercises "Podcast while walking/driving" unlocks a second run. This explains the podcast software to allow high throughput cognitive exercises, and a bit of history of lengthening walks. I goes for 1 hour 40 minutes (the length of the walk) and there is no expectation at all that anyone would listen over more than a few minutes. There is stories on the exploits of Mawson, who is every Australian's legendary hero, and a bit of the US carrier war in the Pacific as I know some countries like listen to this. Knowing you could be speaking to someone is that necessary concept to make podcasting real. The need to remember what you said for this write up and the quiz and word scramble below is good exercise. I normally don't do the quiz. And not this time either due to an odd glitch. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
May 20, 2019FungusWell 70% glow in the dark and I found out how they use hydraulics to spear into just about everything. They might not photosynthesize but there is an idea that some can live of hard radiation. Go figure more than I have ever suspected about these guys.
