You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

March 21, 2019BizarreCommunity DinnerI am deeply troubled by what our kids (in New South Wales) are told about how they are assessed for their final year at school. I looks as if I am alone on this one. As I read other sources I have come up with a macabre tale of a community dinner where the pet dog, cat and cockatoo (common Australian bird) meet a twight zone style end. March 20, 2019Chasing the Sun 34This is really a stunning chapter on Science Fiction. The Roman empire science fiction seems to up end alot of fixed ideas about what was accepted. The idea of Winston Churchill's science fiction is just gob smacking. One has to admit that in terms of putting forward ideas out side the confines of Science is really nothing short of amazing. March 20, 2019BrexitPerhaps the best article I have ever podcasted. Very entertaining and a clever use of political terms to colour geology. Hopefully my reading has improved over these months of rehab. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 19, 2019New Scientist - Periodic Table RageI found some interesting information, like who backs the correct long form periodic table. However, has this person never heard of quantum mechanics and electron affinity. I find the classical electron whizzing around it its shells actually a bit insulting and offensive. I think not to get the idea that they are so out of date, and then make some cheap remarks about quantum physics as they do when they feel stupid is just arrogant. Honestly, it wouldn't take much to read a book on the topic. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 19, 2019Chasing the Sun 33It is actually important to read this as it lays out, taking at face value, quite a number of misconceptions. The key for me is that the ozone (Greek for stench) layer is a distinct layer. It actually brings home the point that people can have genuinely no sense that they don't understand and so never do. I think there is a lot more about the Sun and climate that he has missed and it includes dark matter. It is really so exciting. But what can you do but be bludgeoned by these self assured definitely not an experts. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 18, 20194 Signs of a Quantum Physicsist1. Some competence in maths - equations of functions 2. Discounts junk ideas - no such thing as a Copenhagen school Quantum Physicists. 3. Literate in the deeper use of models 4. Can visualize their own and others journey of understanding. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 17, 2019Chat with a fly fishermanI talk through Incas and the four ways of a Quantum Physicist, but also have a gentle conversation with a fly fisherman. Listening to it I hear the awful noise of me walking... sorry. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 17, 2019Complex thoughts on ChristchurchI was podcasting by chance on the "Black Sun" and this was rather a shock to find out shortly after how dangerous this type of thinking plays out. I have a complex thought that these people are thinking in terms of events rather than process. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
March 17, 2019Chasing the Sun 32Some reflections on the last podcast in which his analysis of the use of the sun in ultra-right post religious ideology helps unpack the Christchurch shooting. I found the Quantum Mechanics rather difficult to stomach however he did a good enough job on the three types of Neutrinos and the solar neutrino problem. I thought he was going to miss the all important tachosphere, but he didn't. For me I long for a good explanation of this area, but this at least had a shot. March 14, 2019More slow discoveryA basic walk through as I work through the new WiFi internet of things boards that are bringing new ideas that seem to me some 30 years old. I am now dying a death of overflowing buffers. I think I am on the right track though. MP4 recording MP3 recording -- -- Your browser does not support the audio element....more0minPlay
