    THE STACK

    • Clockwork Angels #1, BOOM! Studios (Limited Six-Issue Series)

      • Neil Pert (Creator, Rush Drummer), Kevin J. Anderson (Writer), Nick Robles (Artist)

      • Based on the 19th studio album of the same name from the band Rush, in 2012, as well as the novelization released a few months after by Kevin Anderson.

        • GOOD: Gorgeous artwork. Story revolving around steampunk and alchemy elements makes for an interesting read.

        • BAD: Slightly difficult to follow. Plunges you into Albion mythos immediately. Slightly fast pacing.

          • FINAL RATING: 4 PEWS

          • Loki’ Ragnarok and Roll #2, BOOM! Studios (Limited 4-Issue Series)

            • Eric M. Esquivel (Writer), Jerry Gaylord (Artist), Gabriel Cassata (Colors)

            • Loki is banished to Earth by his meathead brother Thor and starts a rock band. In this issue, the god of trickery begins to make humans blasphemous, enraging the other gods.

              • GOOD: Vivid colors by Cassata make the pages really pop and a joy to look at. Established characters Loki and Thor make this an easy series to jump into.

              • BAD: Esquivel’s writing reads more like sloppy fan-fiction, with try-hard references to LA locales, internet memes, etc. It’s all over the place, and it’s hard to get invested in the characters.

                • FINAL RATING: 2 PEWS

                  WARP ZONE

                  • Titanfall, Respawn Entertainment (XB1, PC)

                    • GOOD: Large variety of maps. Gameplay is fresh and new, with the transition between mech and on-foot play.

                    • BAD: “Campaign Mode” feels forced. Lack of weapon options. Framerate issues on PC version.

                        APP OF THE WEEK

                        • RunPee

                          • Gives you 1-4 moments during a movie, optimal for running to the restroom or snack bar. Also lets you know of any stingers that may roll during or after the credits.

                            • GOOD: No other service like it exists.

                            • BAD: Lack of polish. Lack of “insider reviewers” means a movie may be missing if you catch it too early. Costs $1.

                              • FINAL RATING: 3 PEWS

                                      • GOOD: Action scenes were exhilarating and extremely entertaining to watch.

                                      • BAD: Sloppy character introduction and setup. The first twenty minutes of this movie varies from boring to cringe-worthy.

                                        • FINAL RATING: 4 PEWS

                                              • The Good: We finally get some color! Rich Mexico scenery art.

                                              • The Bad: 20 pages? Way too much dialogue written way too casually.

                                                  • The Good: Art is crisp and gorgeous. Vivid colorwork by Chris Blythe.

                                                  • The Bad: Too “dense”? Soapbox feel and pot shots. No progression via characters.

                                                    • FINAL RATING: 2 PEWS

                                                    • Starlight #1, Image Comics

                                                      • The Who: Mark Millar (Writer), Goran Parlov (Artist)

                                                      • The Good: Parlov’s art is reminiscent of Moebius and Dave Gibbons, which is always welcomed. Millar’s story and pacing is amazing, making you catch the feels as well as leaves you with a helluva cliffhanger.

                                                      • The Bad: Not a goddamn thing. That I didn’t have issue 2 already?

                                                        • FINAL RATING: 5 PEWS

                                                          WARP ZONE (GAMES)

                                                          • South Park: The Stick of Truth, Obsidian Games

                                                              • The Good: Humor. Like a 10-hour long South Park episode.

                                                              • The Bad: Slight hiccups in framerate. Not enough fights in-between scripted battles.

                                                                • FINAL RATING: 4 PEWS

                                                                  APP-LE OF MY EYE (APPS)

                                                                  • Royal Revolt 2, Flaregames

                                                                    • The Good: Free. Nice twist to the Tower Defense Genre having you have to play through other peoples’ set-ups.

                                                                    • The Bad: Definite cash grab, like all F2P games. If you’re forking over cash for virtual currency, you’re probably in Gold League easy. That’s lame.

                                                                      • FINAL RATING: 4 PEWS

                                                                        OMGTV (TV SHOW)

                                                                        • Noragami, FUNimation

                                                                          • The Premise: Story of “up-and-coming God” Yato and his struggle to become more relevant by taking odd-job “prayers”.

                                                                          • The Good: Animation-style is reminiscent of big-budget Japanese movie animation. Music direction always on point.

                                                                          • The Bad: Nothing much so far. Sometimes the show takes detours for a little more character development, so they stray away from the main story progression. But it’s enjoyable regardless.

                                                                            • FINAL RATING: 5 PEWS

                                                                              LET’S GET REEL (MOVIES)

                                                                              • 300: Rise of an Empire, Warner Bros. Pictures

                                                                                • The Good: Eva Green’s acting and tits. Great camerawork. Gore plentiful. If you’re going to eat popcorn and watch mindless killing, you’re gonna have a good time.

                                                                                • The Bad: Against Green’s acting, everyone else wanes in comparison. Very little plot and progression.

                                                                                  • FINAL RATING: 3 PEWS

LIFE happened and we were all up in that for awhile. Now that we're settled here in beautiful sunny San Diego at Pew Pew HQ, we promise not to leave you all high and dry again. On this week's episode, we get you, the listener caught up in our life happenings since we went off the air last month. We battled through the ad-riddled San Diego Comic-Con, dined under the watchful eye of Chef Gordon Ramsay for a Kitchen Nightmares taping, and rocked out to a politically driven L.A. Rising concert in Los Angeles (d'uh). We also watched a ton of movies, including Captain America: The First Avenger, 30 Minutes Or Less, & Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Thanks to all of you that were so patient with the release of this episode and to our new listeners who, despite our hiatus, never let our paid server go to waste by downloading and listening to our older shows.
