About Jake

Let's start with the basics I am 29 and identify as non-binary, pansexual and demisexual. I am on the spectrum and neurodivergent. I also have mitochondrial disease, ADHD, associated mood disorder, anxiety, depression and more. I am however an open book on everything.  I am deeply engrained in the kink community and also the furry community.

So I was born and diagnosed with mitochondrial disease when I was young. Over the course of my life my single mother did her best but like most parents of those with chronic illnesses she protected me way to much. When my brothers were born they also were diagnosed with mitochondrial disease I often joke that my mother hit the lottery 3 boys with mito with no trace of it anywhere else in our family.

Having mitochondrial disease has posed many challenges in my life from school where I had an IEP all the way into adulthood. I have always known I was different from everyone else and growing up with that knowledge has made life hard for sure. I also decided however when I was 24 that I was going to stop feeling sorry for myself and not let my condition define me. It was at this point that I launched Lights Out, Barks Out! Or LOBO! for short.

LOBO is a night club event that focuses on being sex positive, kink positive, body positive, gender inclusive, and creating a safe space for all. When we started we were mostly a party in dc for pups and furries but we have grown now to be in 8 cities and to include a wide and diverse group of patrons. LOBO has changed my life and the lives of many others who have found their community and safe space through us. We actually as of a few days ago launched our non-profit wing called the LOBO Initiative which focuses on LGBTQ+ youth and adults and those with disabilities who need a helping hand to achieve their dreams.

In addition to LOBO I am a full time professional DJ and producer and I get the opportunity to play all over the world at circuit parties. This however is at great expense to my overall health.  Having the Mito and being on the road 24/7 working late hours into the 3-5 am time slot isn't good for someone with a mitochondrial cell deficiency. As I said though I made the decision that I wanted to live my life my way and if that means taking a few years off so be it.

I have many more stories to tell but my life has been overcoming one obstacle after the other and I would love the chance to share my story with your audience.

De’Vannon Hubert is the author of Sex, Drugs and Jesus, a memoir about his struggles with drug addiction, drug dealing, homelessness, serving in the Armed Forces, contracting HIV and HEP B, and rejection from his church for his sexuality. De'Vannon is also the author of Don't Call Me A Christian, a book about his views on the catastrophe that is modern Christianity.

De’Vannon is also the host of the Sex, Drugs and Jesus Podcast and is the owner of DownUnder Apparel - A lingerie and sportswear store for men and women. Aside from this, De'Vannon is an Honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force and a graduate of both Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Hypnosis Motivation Institute. He also graduated from the Medical Training College of Baton Rouge and is a Licensed Massage Therapist. De’Vannon’s story is one of surviving the social outskirts and finding one’s way back to a balanced path.

My name is De’Vannon Hubert and I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Discovering my sexuality while growing up as a Christian in the South wasn’t easy, but I didn’t get into any real trouble until my own church told me I wasn’t welcome in God’s house, in my twenties. Dejected, I spiraled into drug addiction and crime, and my drug of choice was crystal meth. After years of living life to the extreme with the craziest drugs and wildest sex I could imagine, my HIV+ diagnosis only told me one thing: Go out with a bang because your life is almost over. Today, my life is a very different story and much has changed. I’m not homeless, I don’t think my life is ending any time soon, and I have an evolving perspective of what it means to live a

balanced and spiritual life. I make it a point to have people in my life who many would say live

on the "social outskirts" and who embrace ideas and practices society believes to be "taboo"

because these are my people and we have so much in common. I have a dirty, sexual, VERY

open mind and yet maintain a strong connection with Jesus Christ. I feel called to tell my story

and connect with others to help them find a greater understanding of themselves and a path to spirituality as well

Deborah J. Burris-Kitchen, Ph.D. is a Professor of Criminology and Department Chair at Tennessee State University in Nashville.  She is the author of Female Gang Participation (Edwin Mellen Press, 1997). She also co-authored an article on racism in higher education in the College Student Journal (2000). Her publications also include a book titled Short Rage: an autobiographical look at heightism in America (2002). She also has a book chapter (July 2010) titled Pathways to prison: Implications for the Health and Mental health in the African American Community in Handbook for African American Health Psychology: Evidence-based treatment and prevention practices (edited by Robert Hampton & Ray Crowell); From Slavery to Prisons: A Historical Delineation of the Criminalization of African Americans (2010); a journal article titled Short Rage Revisited (2018); and Deviance and Control, Kendall and Hunt (2020) and a second edition of Deviance and Control was released by Kendall and Hunt in 2021.

Dr. Burris-Kitchen has served as the chair of the research committee and as the Vice President of the National Organization of Short Statured Adults (NOSSA).  She has also served as President for (Association of Humanist Sociology) AHS and was a member of AHS for many years.  She has also been a member of the American Society of Criminology, and the American Sociological Association.

Dr. Burris –Kitchen is also an activist who fights against violence, racism, exploitation, greed, and capitalism.

Biography

Kimberly grew up in the suburbs of Boston and in Saratoga Springs, New York, although she now calls the Harlem neighborhood of New York City home when she’s back in the US.

She studied political science and history at Cornell University and earned her MBA, with a concentration in strategy and marketing, from Bocconi University in Milan.

Afflicted with a severe case of Wanderlust, she worked in journalism and government in the US, Czech Republic and Austria, before settling down in Rome, where she works in international development, and writes fiction any chance she gets.

She is a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association and The Historical Novel Society and has published several short stories and three novels: Three Coins, Dark Blue Waves, and In The Shadow of The Apennines. Her first short story collection, Drink Wine and Be Beautiful, will be released in May 2023.

After years spent living in Italy with her Italian husband and sons, she’s fluent in speaking with her hands, and she loves setting her stories in her beautiful, adoptive country.
