In this episode we speak to Jemima Dzator, early career pharmacist and PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle. Jemima and fellow researchers at the Clinical Nutrition Research Centre are working on a world-first clinical trial studying hormone-related menstrual migraine.
Jemima shares her pharmacy journey and what led her to study pharmacy, as well as her appreciation for pharmacy and passion for research, sharing why she decided to undertake a PhD and the steps taken to get there. We also go behind the scenes and Jemima reveals what a typical day is like for her as a PhD candidate and the activities involved during clinical trials.
Jemima shares her experience as a teaching associate at the University of Newcastle pharmacy school, tutoring and assisting pharmacy students with counseling and laboratory sessions.
We discuss career opportunities available for PhD graduates in academia, research and the diverse career paths in the pharmaceutical industry or public sector. We also touch on the covid-19 pandemic and the current state of pharmacy.
Finally, Jemima dispenses take home tips for pharmacy students and intern pharmacist to script their dream career, including actionable steps for pharmacists who wish to explore career opportunities in industry, research or get involved in faculty teaching and ultimately HACK their career.
