First of all, if you are an introvert, this podcast is most definitely not for you. You will not relate.

For those extroverts who love to talk, this is definitely for you.

It is a very important skill for us to learn how to not talk at times even though we naturally feel like talking all the time.

It is a specific skill that we have to develop and I want to talk about it to better help us.

I know it sounds like I’m being funny here, but I’m not. Just trying to help fellow extroverts like myself be more respectful in communication.

Sometimes we take on a character where the posture is going to be in the perfect alignment for healthy movement.

A great example would be Quasimodo from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

The problem with this kind of posture is how it can damage things in your body and lead to pain.

I know so many people dread tech rehearsal but I absolutely love it!

There’s nothing better than being at the theater all day.

I love having the time behind the scenes to get more comfortable on that stage with the sets and the lighting.

Even if I am standing there, I am happy to be there.

I love the process of putting all the different components together for the first time on the stage and think it’s absolutely magical.

Without tact, how could someone feel as comfortable when they run the show and dress rehearsal the following days.

I absolutely love tech and am happy to be sharing this joy with you.

🎟 Topic - Why don’t we wear costumes as much as possible?

I literally don’t understand why performers don’t wear costumes as much as they can.

It doesn’t make sense to me.

Since most of us unfortunately do not get the gig, we are left with many days not getting to dress in a character.

We love that!

For me, Halloween is my favorite holiday because of that.… Well, also the can-do. Lol.

I get that they are different personalities and things that people like or don’t like. I get that.

But if we are specifically speaking of musical theatre performers and dressing up, I feel like that would just be happening all the time in our daily lives.

🎟 Topic - Why do you get sick? Why do you get hurt?

Oh, man, we rack our brains trying to figure out why we are sick or hurt all the time?

We are usually asking this question to find a reason to beat ourselves up for a body not working the way it needs to for a show.

What good is an explanation gonna do? The only person who really worries about the explanation is the person trying to heal you.

That’s the wrong question because it’s pointless to beat yourself up. Stress only delays your healing process.

If you are hurt, do the work to get better or if you are sick, rest so you can get better.

Our bodies are going to have ups and downs with health, that’s part of life unfortunately.

If you’re currently sick or hurt right now, hang in there. There will be light at the end of the tunnel.

🎟 Topic - When to take a break from acting class

Figuring out when to be in class and especially when not to be in class for acting is not easy.

I have been very fortunate to work with great acting teachers, and with that, have become a regular from the teachers that have really helped me.

Choosing one to take a break is not easy because I have to differentiate between needing the time off and needing to continue working on my craft.

This also could be hard for many when it comes to a financial issue.

Quality acting classes are not cheap and I am a performer who doesn’t want to just spend money on an acting class just cause it’s an acting class.

I need to be in an acting class that is challenging, supportive, and surrounds me with great talent.

I don’t have major solutions to this. I just wanted to bring it up for discussion because it is a big deal to us performers.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again: someone else’s injury is never your business.

But the whole purpose of the episode is to nail down that concept for every musical theater performer.

Every person has different health strengths and weaknesses. It is no one else’s business besides theirs.

If they choose to tell you about their health issues, it is still none of your business.

This is not just to protect other people… It is meant to protect you.

You are important and I want you to feel safe whenever you are struggling with your health in some manner.

No injured person deserves the added stress of someone else’s opinion on their health when they’re already suffering from something going wrong with their body.
