A San Francisco tech worker named Alysa Liu had her Instagram account suspended after Olympic figure-skater Alysa Liu won gold and caused a surge of fan confusion.  The suspension came after the skater warned of scammers on Instagram, leading Meta to mistake the other Alysa as an imposter.

A federal lawsuit filed by life insurance company Nippon claims OpenAI’s chatbot acted as a lawyer and convinced a woman to fire her human attorney. Nippon says it settled a long-term disability lawsuit with an Illinois woman two years ago. Graciela Dela Torre signed a full release, and the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled. However, last year, Dela Torre sought to reopen the case.

Assemblymember Alexandra Macedo checks in with Philip Teresi after a CBS News investigation found that hundreds of hospice providers in Los Angeles County show signs of widespread fraud, including fake offices, stolen patient identities, and massive overbilling of Medicare. More than 700 hospices triggered fraud red flags, with some billing double or triple the national average per patient, despite years of promised state crackdowns.

A federal judge struck down DOJ subpoenas targeting Fed Chair Jerome Powell over alleged misuse of funds tied to a $2.5 billion building renovation, calling them a pretext to pressure him on interest rates. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro strongly condemned the decision as “wrong and without legal authority” and confirmed the Department of Justice will appeal the ruling.

California regulators are cracking down on the so-called “Montana loophole,” under which Californians use LLCs to register luxury cars in Montana—avoiding state sales and registration taxes. Since 2023, over 2,500 vehicles have been flagged, costing California more than $10 million in lost revenue; 14 individuals and nearly 500 dealers are now under criminal investigation.
