Chau Nguyen (b. Hanoi, Vietnam) (they/she) is a Vietnamese immigrant artist based in Philadelphia. They draw from concepts of translation, memory, cultural symbols, affect theory, materiality, and research on Vietnamese histories to convey frictions at the intersection of cultural identity, colonial fragments, and transnationalism. Nguyen received their BA in Fine Arts and History of Art from Bryn Mawr College and their MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art and Architecture. They were an artist-in-residence at 77Art Center (VT) and Chautauqua Art Institution (NY). Their work has been in group and solo exhibitions at The Delaware Contemporary (DE), The Monmouth Museum (NJ), The Woodmere Art Museum (PA), Visionary Projects (NY), Studio Montclair (NJ), Philadelphia Sketch Club (PA), Philly Art Collective (PA), Gallery Steinsland Berliner (Stockholm), among others. They worked on curatorial projects in conjunction with New Kensington CDC and Bryn Mawr College. Nguyen also served on the DEI Council at Comoto Holdings, a major U.S. platform in motorsports, where they co-led Comoto’s first women’s employee resource group.
Nguyen has received grants and awards from The Loretta C. Duckworth Scholars Studio at Temple University Libraries, The Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE), Tyler School of Art and Architecture, The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, Chautauqua Art Institute, Bryn Mawr College, DIS Copenhagen, and FPT-Arena Multimedia.
