Another day, another Metro Division game that the Flyers really must win to solidify their shot at a spot on the playoffs. The Islanders are another team on the bubble, currently in the third place spot but only one point behind the two wild card teams on their tail. The Philadelphia Flyers kept the momentum going on Monday night, defeating Joel Quenneville's Florida Panthers, 4-1, at the Wells Fargo Center.

Carter Hart made his triumphant return to the lineup, stopping 30 of 31 Panthers shots to earn his first victory since January 13th.

Ivan Provorov, James van Reimsdyk, Travis Sanheim, and Claude Giroux scored Philly's goals in the victory. Giroux's was a short-handed empty netter on his backhand from about 190 feet that split the uprights perfectly, as the puck was lodged underneath the goal camera when the official went to dig it out.

Sanheim's tally, his eight of the year, was the sixth he has scored against Sergei Bobrovsky. Alomst one-third (6/19) of Sanheim's career goals have come against the former Flyer known as Bob.

These two points were huge, and getting them in regulation was just as important, with Florida also battling for a wild card playoff berth.

After a disappointing 5-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, what else did you expect from the Philadelphia Flyers other than a...7-2 road win against the Washington Capitals last night? This team makes no sense, but at least they are capable of dominating elite teams on any given night.

On this particular evening a lot of Flyers had their hand in the Caps’ beatdown. Sean Couturier had a two-goal game with a beautiful move to embarrass Braden Holtby for his second. Nicolas Aube-Kubel registered a Gordie Howe hat trick thanks to dancing around Radko Gudas to set up Michael Raffl and a snipe of his own. Claude Giroux ended his 13-game goal drought in emphatic fashion and Jakub Voracek provided a pair of helpers. We touched on all those subjects in this postgame reaction as well as:

Robert Hagg, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Mark Friedman.

Whether or not the Flyers will (or should) make a move at the trade deadline.

Disappointed.

I thought we were over this sort of behavior- overlooking inferior opponents and blowing golden opportunities for points in the midst of a playoff push ahead of the most crucial two weeks on the schedule.

Things have been, largely, different this year. But the game between the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils on Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center felt very, very familiar.

A bad start. Shoddy goaltending. Horrific special teams. Laughable puck security.

It was a clunker in every sense of the word.

The only question now is how this team reacts and recovers.

It's easy to look at a team like the Devils and think you can pencil in the win for the Flyers. And you're right -- the Flyers should beat them. But the Devils have a few bright spots that the Flyers will need to contain and the ability to, sporadically, shut down the opposition with good goaltending.
