Psalm 51:10-12 - Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
1 John 4:7-8 - Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:9-10 - This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:11-12 - Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 2:6 - Whoever claims to live in him, must live as Jesus did.
1 John 4:19 - We love because he first loved us.
This ordinary girl was obedient at a very high cost!
The very act of her of obedience immediately put her in a position that called for her death.
She was in the center of God’s will, but she still had a very, very hard path.
Joseph was a descendant of David.
He was faith to the law of God, but side-stepped that law in favor of grace.
Joseph chose grace - even when that grace was EXTREMELY COSTLY to him
The wise men here highly educated pagans - they were outsiders to Israel
This was not their story - not their promise, but God invited them into it
They saw a star, and had access to, or knowledge of some Hebrew scriptures and that was enough for them to start an incredible faith journey that ended with them worshipping at the feet of Jesus.
For the very first public announcement of the birth of the long-awaited savior, God started with some third-shift shepherds
God chose the ordinary to be part of the extraordinary
Have you ever felt like a third-shift shepherd?
Overlooked, unimportant, insignificant, dirty, unworthy
Then Behold!! This GOOD NEWS of GREAT JOY is for YOU!
James 5:13-14 - Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:15 - And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
James 5:7 - Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.
James 5:8-9 - You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door.
James 5:1-3 - Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver have corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.
James 4:1 - What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?
