January 10, 2018 Ep. 012: Photo Bombs, Uncomfortable Smiles, And Elvis!
In this episode, Spencer and Scott are joined by friend of the show, Manette Gonzales, for an early morning shoot at Mission Beach in San Diego. After a pleasing sunrise, we jump in the car and talk about a whole bunch of stuff - and some of it is actually photography related!
Both Scott and Spencer discuss their photo bombing experiences during this very shoot. Spencer’s penchant for sharing the shot reinforces the old adage “no good deed goes unpunished”. Scott gets comp stomped by a couple out for a morning walk. Spencer also shares his early problems with drone photography and overcoming the anxiety of flying them.
This show is not without its normal share of tangents. Scott derails the conversation with an unusually long sidebar on Elvis Presley. We learn Manette is a major fan of classic Hollywood movies. And more than once, we pitch the idea of the drone “churro attachment” to feed seagulls. Hey Lume Cube… are you listening? (At least consider the Churro Clip as a fantastic April Fool’s product!)

January 03, 2018 Ep. 011: Photo Plans For 2018 And… Why Do You Buy Gear?
Happy 2018! In this episode, Spencer and Scott cover a *ton* of topics. We start with a look back at our personal highlights from 2017. We also talk about the year ahead, the differences between independent travel and guided tours, and what photo trade shows pique our interest.
Scott brings up the topic of being a content creator and sometimes feeling the weight of feeling like every shoot needs to be documented. A resolution emerges… allow yourself space to simply focus on just making a photograph. Spencer shares his thoughts and how juggling multiple cameras, tripods, and drones are more his norm. He thinks there’s a new year’s resolution in there somewhere.
Do you have photo resolutions for this year?
The conversation turns toward gear (hey man, Spencer is in this show… gear comes up). It’s an interesting topic given how different we are when it comes to gear. Spencer is an unabashed lover of new tech and seems to have a gadget every week. Scott is more purpose driven with his gear purchases and less inclined to buy the next new “shiny object”. It’s a great exchange of thoughts and ideas.

Join Spencer and Scott in this holiday spirited episode. We talk about Black Friday deals and the things they gifted to themselves. Spencer’s list is *long* and includes the brand new Sony A7RIII and a Sony A6000. Scott is having a Sony A7R converted to infrared by Life Pixel. The conversation turns to what gear - if any - is still on the purchasing radar. Scott talks about printing panos and small prints for archival purposes. And we remember to mention Festivus!

Spencer and Scott connect with Aldryn Estacio of FlytPath and Tricia Pablo. Aldryn is the Top Gun pilot of drones! He attaches a pair of Lume Cubes to his DJI drone. He lit Spencer’s and Tricial’s pair of Teslas with the San Diego skyline as a background. Aldryn tells us about the challenges the extra weight introduces for drone flying. We also talk about how our involved our families are with our photography.

December 06, 2017 Ep. 007: Face-Tweets And Snap-Grams
Scott and Spencer sit down for a chat about social networks and photography. What social networks do we use today? We both admit to failing to keep up our Flickr accounts, and that our past work may not be what we want others to view. We also talk about the networks we are using today and why.
Spencer shifts the conversation to the future. He poses the question - What photo plans and adventures do you have planned for 2018? Our minds roam the globe from fall colors in Colorado to national parks in Maine to castle ruins dotting the Scottish landscape.
And then - technical difficulties!!! Our cameras start powering down one after the other. Why? The batteries in the RX0s start dying - Spencer didn’t fully charge them! We barely make it to the end of the episode!!!

Spencer and Scott attend an excellent tour of the Salk Institute, an architectural jewel of a building. While we are talking after the shoot, the sky absolutely lights up. We dash out of the car to the back of the building for nothing short of a stellar sunset! We also talk about sky replacement techniques and photo composites. Oh, and Spencer reveals he thinks Scott is hot…. when lit with a LumeCube.

Scott and Spencer visit Otay Lakes on a hazy, overcast morning. We dub a nearby dam the “Ikea Dam” - it is truly strange what oddball thoughts go through your head early in the morning! Spencer and Scott meet up after individual shoots at the Torrey Pines Glider Port. Scott stirs up the 10 year old version of Spencer, who can’t handle an adult conversation about walking through a nude beach with a camera (which Scott kept in the bag during that part of his hike, by the way!). We also talk about how sometimes colors in nature are very saturated and how the creative modes in your camera can change how you compose a scene.
