Today we will be talking about Chronic Lyme Disease (also referred to as Post Lyme Disease Syndrome and Post Lyme Disease Treatment Syndrome). Upwards of 10% of individuals infected by the Lyme spirochete have persistent symptoms though many have been through courses of antibiotics. Though autoimmunity was hypothesized as a cause of persistent Lyme Disease symptoms following Borrelia infection, now it has been confirmed to be present in those suffering with persistent symptoms of Lyme Disease. Today we will go over new data and older research articles examining the relationships between the infectious trigger and the resultant autoimmune responses that ensue.
