Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka grew up under the apartheid regime that restricted almost every aspect of her life and person. Mentored by Nelson Mandela, she served in his cabinet as a minister and later became the Deputy President of South Africa. As Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and the Executive Director of UN Women, she has brought her mission of championing women and girls to a global stage.
