  • Polar Bears’ Christmas, Ariana Hawkes – Episode 21
    * * * A standalone holiday bear shifter romance. * * *

    “What a festive, magical and AWESOME holiday read!”

    Curvy bear shifter Everly Holbrook is dreading the festive season. The only unmated daughter of her family, and the only white bear in the entire clan, she’s frequently the target of mockery, which only gets worse when the whole bunch gathers together. She's getting to the end of her tether with her parents’ controlling ways, when a handsome stranger comes along, and treats her like she’s something special. His body seems to be screaming for her, but then he tells her they can’t be together. Oh well, she doesn’t have time for more confusion in her life!

    Polar bear shifter Heath Stoneking hasn’t felt the spirit of Christmas since he lost his mate, and only puts on a show of it for his two young kids. When he meets the funny, sarcastic and quirky Everly, he’s determined to help her achieve the happiness she deserves. His bear seems crazy about her, but he can’t trust himself to open his heart to love again.

    The closer they get the more irresistible their attraction becomes. But can Heath escape the shadows of his past before he’s ruined his chance to be with Everly?

    Please note: This story was previously published as part of the Bear All I Want For Christmas Boxed Set. Due to popular demand, this is a standalone release of the book. As a special bonus, it also contains a ten page epilogue, which answers the question you’ve all been asking!  -Goodreads

  • An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz – Episode 18
    The first history of the United States told from the perspective of indigenous peoples

    Today in the United States, there are more than five hundred federally recognized Indigenous nations comprising nearly three million people, descendants of the fifteen million Native people who once inhabited this land. The centuries-long genocidal program of the US settler-colonial regimen has largely been omitted from history. Now, for the first time, acclaimed historian and activist Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz offers a history of the United States told from the perspective of Indigenous peoples and reveals how Native Americans, for centuries, actively resisted expansion of the US empire.

    In An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States, Dunbar-Ortiz adroitly challenges the founding myth of the United States and shows how policy against the Indigenous peoples was colonialist and designed to seize the territories of the original inhabitants, displacing or eliminating them. And as Dunbar-Ortiz reveals, this policy was praised in popular culture, through writers like James Fenimore Cooper and Walt Whitman, and in the highest offices of government and the military. Shockingly, as the genocidal policy reached its zenith under President Andrew Jackson, its ruthlessness was best articulated by US Army general Thomas S. Jesup, who, in 1836, wrote of the Seminoles: “The country can be rid of them only by exterminating them.”

    Spanning more than four hundred years, this classic bottom-up peoples’ history radically reframes US history and explodes the silences that have haunted our national narrative. -Goodreads
