THE TELEVISION series Dig is a well-written and stylish archaeological thriller, dramatizing an attempt by secretive groups of Christian and Jewish zealots to bring about the Apocalypse by destroying the Dome of the Rock, the mosque that is believed to occupy the site of Solomon’s Temple. We discuss elements of the show and the tendency of people — selves included — to incorporate fiction into our theology.

MOUNTAINS ARE shaking. A massive earthquake has left over 2,400 dead in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Tibet at last count, and that number will almost certainly grow in the hours ahead. Meanwhile, a volcano in Chile has unexpectedly erupted for the first time in 40 years, spewing a cloud of ash that’s reached southern Brazil.

What’s more, people spotted something that looked like a giant in the cloud and some locals are convinced that it was a manifestation of the god of the volcano.

This isn’t surprising. Mountains and volcanoes have been considered the abode of gods since the dawn of time. In fact, Eden was on “the holy mountain of God” (Ezekiel 28:13-14). And the climactic battle between the armies of heaven and the forces of Antichrist will be at Armageddon — har-mo’ed — the “mount of assembly” in the Holy Land, Mount Zion.

ASTROPHYSICISTS ARE apparently beginning to rethink the idea of the Big Bang. A pair of researchers claimed this week that quantum mechanics suggest that the universe has always existed. The fact that erasing a starting point for the universe eliminates the need for a Creator is probably not coincidental.

THE TITLE of this week’s show is a reference to a wonderful exchange between a clothing designer and a host on the QVC shopping channel about whether the Moon is a planet or a star. Of course, it’s neither, but it led to a discussion of a panic 60 years ago when the U.S. government frantically searched for two “natural” satellites that appeared on radar, orbiting the equator at 400 miles and 600 miles above the Earth.

We believe the UFO phenomenon is real, but it’s not what UFO true believers think it is.

Also: Elon Musk plans global satellite broadband; John Kerry brings James Taylor to France; more American soldiers (and weapons) for Iraq; Russia uses Gazprom to threaten Ukraine and EU, while moving to absorb South Ossetia from Georgia; Thailand recognizes third gender in its new constitution; U.S. Supreme Court to rule on homosexual marriage; George Soros finances Ferguson protests; and ISIS continues to gain territory despite hundreds of Western air strikes.

Of course, it doesn’t take much imagination to predict more turmoil in the Middle East, especially given the Palestinian Authority’s recent failed initiative to have the United Nations Security Council declare it an independent state. We also discuss the continued conflict between the Islamic State and anyone who stands in the way of their dream of a restored caliphate.

We discuss Ebola, the price of oil, shaky banks and a wobbly economy, and unconfirmed reports indicating that an incident at the Zaporozhye nuclear plant in Ukraine is ongoing and far more serious than was reported a month ago.

IT HAS been a fascinating ten year journey. We started P.I.D. Radio as a tool to market our novels, and it quickly became apparent that our novels served to start us down a path toward full-time ministry.

That becomes a reality in 2015.
