Pauline Montemayor, LCSW is a licensed psychotherapist and owner of H.O.P.E Psychotherapy Services, LLC, located in NJ. She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults in various therapeutic settings and treating a variety of mental and behavioral health disorders. Pauline now focuses on working with adults and adolescents in her practice. She specializes in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, spiritual issues and challenges related to cultural identity and the first generation experience. She also offers faith based/spiritual therapeutic services for clients who want to integrate their faith or spirituality into their therapeutic process.

In our Season 3 opener, we talk with Dental Hygienist and Capoeira Instrutor, Nes Marco Morales (IG: @dentalcaredalycity, @capoeiradalycity).

Nes Marco Morales, a.k.a. "Kuya Galo" was born a first generation Pilipino-American in San Francisco, California. His family has been in a family dental care practice for about 40 years, starting in the Philippines. His parents immigrated to the USA and opened their first family dental care clinic in June 1989. In 1999, Nes Marco began to take responsibilities at the business from ground up until eventually holding every position at the one point in his career. Before his commitment to the practice, he explored many pathways away from dental work, such as culinary arts and dance. He eventually found all the signs that he needed to confirm that dental care was his unique gift to help make a difference in his community during his dental mission trip abroad in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He graduated from West Los Angeles Dental Hygiene Program and received his Registered Dental Hygiene License in 2016.

His passion for movement and martial arts began in 1994 with Professor Gerald Ronan and Professor Vince Ronan of Ralph Castro Shaolin Kenpo Karate, where after 20+ years later he has reunited with them to hold Capoeira classes at their SKMA studio in Daly City. During the years prior to his dedication to capoeira, Galo sought out other styles of martial arts/dance movements such as Ballroom, Filipino Folk Dance, Chang Chuan Kung Fu, Judo, Filipino Martial Arts, B-boying and Lucha Libre Wrestling.

His first Capoeira experience began in 2004. In 2008, Galo finally found his path back into the Capoeira and Samba dance arts. He competed multiple years in the International Capoeira Federation Championship Tournament and earned his three medals. He has performed professionally on many cultural shows especially with Ana Laidley of Malandro N'Motion, Rock N' Rio Las Vegas Music Festival with Brasil Brasil Cultural Center, Gafieira Brasil Competition showcase with Rodrigo Marques in Rio de Janeiro, and in the National Samba King and Queen Competition held in Arizona, where he was crowned the "National Prince of Samba". Instrutor Galo began his regular training with Capoeira Batuque in 2009.

Today, Galo resides in the Bay Area married with two children, practicing dental hygiene, and continues his capoeira mission under the guidance of the legendary Mestre Amen Santo and Mestre Versátil Ismail. The county of San Mateo recognizes Nes Marco Morales' work and officially celebrates a day for capoeira annually since January 19, 2019, also known today as, GALO DAY.

In our Season 2 finale, we talk with Naturopathic Doctor, Licensed Acupuncturist and Founder of Integrative Natural Health, Dr. David Richard (IG: @integrativenaturalhealth).

Dr. David Richard is a California licensed Naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist. He received his doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine and Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA, the nation’s leading institution in research and education of science-based natural medicine. Dr. Richard participated in a China externship at Shanghai University’s Traditional Chinese Medicine teaching clinic, where he had additional training in internal medicine, gynecology, and the application of Chinese herbal medicine. Dr. Richard founded Integrative Natural Health, Inc. in Claremont, CA in 2009.

Dr. David Richard’s mission is to educate individuals and communities on how to achieve optimal health and wellness in the most natural way possible. Through proper dietary habits, nutritional support, and an emphasis on preventative medicine, Dr. Richard believes everyone can achieve their health goals. He utilizes natural therapeutics, modern medical technology, and the knowledge of Western and Eastern medical philosophies to diagnose and formulate treatment plans specifically for the individual. Anna Salumbides is an Energy Coach and Energy Healing Practitioner. She works remotely with clients from all over the globe to help them connect with their own inner wisdom. She believes that a deep connection to this inner guidance helps us to find the path we were meant to travel. She’s trained in various energy healing modalities such as the Emotion Code, Theta Healing, and the Akashic Records. Her energy tools help clients to let go of of energetic entanglements that come from outdated stories, beliefs, and old emotional energy. Releasing that emotional baggage helps them to discover and begin to travel their aligned and purpose-filled path.

In our 10th episode of Season 2, first one for 2023, we talk with Clinical Herbalist, Bernadette Aguirre (IG: @bern.aguirre) and Founder of INA Botanicals & Tea (@ina.botanicals.tea).

As a lifelong city-dweller, Bernadette grew up eating herbs and vegetables growing in a modest garden that was mainly tended by her mom. Both of her parents were raised on farms in the Philippines, amidst hovering mango trees, moringa bushes, and in between the moist air where rice paddies lay. It's no wonder that plants' nourishing powers have always found a home in her medicine cabinet or boiling on her stove. When Bernadette started her career in New York City, her mornings started each day with a paper cup and tea bag of Earl Grey from the local bodega.

Bernadette has turned to tea and herbs not only for the tea parties and delicious blends, but also for their holistic health benefits. Her approach as an herbal practitioner is centered around Energetic Herbalism, which matches the attributes and spirit of herbs to the state of a person's mind and body.

Paola Deocampo is a Filipino-American writer, crafter, actor, producer, and certified California naturalist. She is the author of BE, a lyrical tale for adolescents, teens, and the adult's inner child. As a multi-passionate creative, Paola has immersed herself in songwriting, memoir, fiber art, fitness training, plant-based nutrition, citizen science, and filmmaking. More recently, she helped produce and played a leading role in JANE DOE, an award-winning short film.

She is currently working on her next manuscript as well as a female-forward collaboration geared toward the stage.

In our 7th episode of Season 2, we talk with Dr. Christine Catipon (IG: @dr.christinecatipon).

Dr. Christine Catipon, who goes by she/they/siya, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has worked in university counseling centers in California for the past twelve years. She currently works full-time in Counseling and Psychological Services at Stanford University and has a part-time private teletherapy practice. She is the current Vice President for the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA) and has held numerous leadership positions within the Filipinx American community. Dr. Catipon is a frequent speaker and panelist on Filipinx American mental health and she was most recently featured in the Los Angeles Times, on PBS NewsHour, and as a panelist at the 2022 San Diego Comic Con. Her professional areas of interest include AAPI social justice, LGBTQ+ identity, and intersectionality. In her spare time, she enjoys karaoke, mahjong and other board games, playing with her dog, and being a foodie.
