Today on Pillar Talk with Rochelle, minister, mentor, and speaker Rev. Pearl Gillespie-Gray, takes us on a journey of how "environment" instilled in her a sense of community and pride. Being one of eleven children, waking up to big country breakfasts and gospel music, Rev. Pearl paints a vivid picture of her strong midwest roots. Yet, inspired by her dutiful father and selfless mother, she leads out of authenticity, resilience, passion, and perseverance. Growing up in an environment where there was "fraud in the family and fraud in the community," Rev. Pearl learned at a young age how to overcome adversity and segregation while internalizing racism. "I won't let that environment define me or deter me. I got a mission, and I'm going to be the person I was created to be." —Rev. Pearl Gillespie-Gray.
