Leigh Evans is from a prominent motorsport family and has made a name for herself trackside at all levels of motorsport from grassroots to Supercars. Recently she was in Race Control and the Chief Flag Marshall at the Historic Racing Car Club Qld TTT weekend at Morgan Park. Leigh has been travelling Australia with her parents and partner for many years volunteering in numerous roles. Bathurst 1000, Supercars, Bathurst 12 Hour, SuperSprints, State Championships, ChallengeBathurst, Mt Cotton Hillclimb are just some of the events Leigh has attended in her travels and local to home.

Leigh is a Silver Licence holder and has been honoured with awards such as QRDA Families in Motorsport Award (presented to Leigh, her mother (Judy) and father (David)), 2013 Track Official of the Event at SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and Rockie of the Event 2014 Sydney 500 in the role of Trainee Sector Marshall.

Mary Caplet is a Silver Official and best known as a Clerk of Course and Chief Scrutineer at many events including Mt Cotton Hillclimb, Motorkhana and Khanacross. With over 30 years of motorsport involvement Mary has a wealth of knowledge to share and loves to do so. Mary had her voluntary service recognised by Motorsport Australia (CAMS at the time) in 2012 with a service award which she is most proud of. Mary has cemented the Caplet family name in motorsport history and she is most proud that her son and grandson are taking the family name forward in to the future!

This interview was recorded the Friday before the Bathurst 1000. We hope all the volunteers, including Berenice Stratton who was the Safety Car Communicator had a brilliant time!

In this this interview, John Tait takes us back to when his love of motorsport began and has evolved over the years. John joined the military as a young man and travelled all over the world with his family but once settling back in Australia, John got right back in cars, Clubs and motorsport with the support of his wife Marian. John has been a member of MG Car Club Queensland, MX-5 Car Club Queensland and BMW Club Queensland and volunteered within these Clubs in roles such as Chapter Leader, Drive Coordinator, Vice President, Treasurer, Assistant to Motorsport Director and ICC Coordinator. John highlights the importance for Club members to take part in voluntary roles in Clubs, the enjoyment that will bring to you and the members and how with the support of his wife Marian, he has been able to do this for many years.

Berenice was a motorsport competitor prior to taking up volunteering roles. Over the years Berenice has performed in different roles including Scrutineering. These days though you can spot her, often with her husband Brad, in the Safety Car. Have you ever wondered why there is a Safety Car and what happens inside it? Well, wonder no more, Berenice tells us everything you need to know. Berenice and Brad have been invited to the F1 in Melbourne next year to Safety Car for the supporting events. A huge achievement and recognition for them both. We will certainly have a part two with Berenice after that event. Annette has been around motorsport since she was 16 years old and is a well-known woman trackside. Annette has worked her way up to Event Secretary and has been recognised by Motorsport Australia and clubs she has assisted for her dedication and commitment to her role. After many years volunteering, Annette is looking forward to a little rest and relaxation at the end of 2023.
