  • Pint Notes #25: Can’t Live Without Them
For the first Half-Pints, Whole-Notes podcast of 2015, Rebecca Ruiz and Josh Wodarz talk about the albums of 2015 that they couldn’t live without.
Sure, you may have read Best Of-lists, where people ranked what the best albums were, but sometimes those choices are not necessarily telling you what people were listening to on a day to day basis. No, in this episode they looked back to see what albums they continued to listen to throughout the year.
Plus beers from New Glarus and Stone Brewing.

  • Pint Notes #24: Winter Ale Showdown
Rebecca Ruiz and Josh Wodarz engage in a Winter Ale showdown. It’s St. Paul, Minnesota’s Summit Winter Ale versus Minneapolis, Minnesota’s Indeed Stir Crazy Winter Ale! Two will enter… and probably get drank. Yup. Delicious Winter Ales.
Oh, right, and they talk about music, including Minneapolis rapper Lizzo’s new album Big GRRL Small World, Shovels & Rope’s Busted Jukebox, Vol 1., Mexican group Los Dod’s El Sonido Del Debut o´ Despedida, Addie Pray’s Screentime, Cage the Elephant’s Tell Me I’m Pretty, and the debut record from Jon Benjamin, Jazz Daredevil – Well, I Should Have… It’s a winter riot!

  • Pint Notes #23: Enter the Christmas!
It’s almost Christmas time so Becca Ruiz and Josh Wodarz decide to run over some of their favorite Christmas tunes. We cover it all, well, ok, not really. But there is a bit of ground, from the Darlene Love classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” to Becca’s love of classic Christmas songs like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman.” They also go over the history of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Josh laments that the Keith Richards whacked-out cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” with Toots & the Maytalls isn’t on Spotify, but hey, we found a link for you!
Don’t forget to go to csicon.fm/hw23 to get access to our Spotify playlist to have yourself a Merry Christmas and all that. Oh, plus El Vez and his Public Image Limited inspired version of Feliz Navidad.

  • Pint Notes #22: Cephalopod Metal
Well, not really. We do talk about metal and then separately about cephalopods. The title just sounded cool.
This week, we have beers from Toppling Giant and Ale Asylum. Plus; new records from Vastum, which spins out into a whole discussion on metal, violence, and art. Plus, The Foxymorons, Wreckless Eric, and Grimes. Someone on the podcast really loves Grimes. Then we’ve got a couple of quick opinions on Made of Oak, the recent Bob Dylan Bootleg release, and garage pop/rockers The Muscadettes.

  • Pint Notes #18: Kicking Pumpkins
Fall is upon us, so Josh Wodarz and Rebecca Ruiz decided to try at least one seasonal beer. Will New Belgium’s Pumpkick be the last time Josh decides to drink a fall seasonal? Oh, and the music, right. They review the latest from The Ghost Ease, Petite Noir, Beirut, and discover Jackson Boone. Plus quick takes on Craig Finn, Vieux Farka Toure & Julia Easterlin, Vision, Ben Folds, and Shannon & the Clams. Fun stuff, I assure you. As fun as kicking pumpkins. Or smiling politely.

  • Pint Notes #17: A Positive Jam
Josh Wodarz and Becca Ruiz can’t stop liking stuff. Whether it’s Yo La Tengo, Marrow, Lou Barlow, or Mannequins on 7th Street, gosh darnit, they just like things. Listen to their quick takes, they’re even liking things there. The beer is a bit more of a mixed bag though. But seriously, you should like this episode too. Like, if there’s a like button where you see this, you should, totally like, press it.

  • Pint Notes #16: Birthday Podcast
It’s Rebecca Ruiz’s birthday. And we have some fun with that. We also have some fun with the three albums we review – Palehound, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Beach House. Then it’s all fighting and acrimony as we discuss what exactly is the best Hold Steady album. Find out who brought a spoon to a knife fight. Actually we’re not sure, so if you could tell us, that would be great. As for beers, we have Oskar Blues’ IPA and Lagunitas’ Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale. We drank the wrong one first. Listen and find out why.
