    In episode 26 I discuss my first ever double brew day, and I rail against Goose Island Bourbon County and people standing in long lines waiting to buy it. This week's interview took place at The Phoenix Brewing Company in Mansfield, OH. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Duncan and Carmone Macfarlane to discuss the six years of success that they have enjoyed in a former mortuary. We sample some really delicious beers including Santa Muerte, which is an amazing Mexican Stout. And of course we discuss the impact that the pandemic has had on the business.

  • Season 1: Episode 25 - Uniontown Brewing Company

    In this episode I discuss the upcoming final show of 2020 and the need for audience participation. I cover my love for the idea of craft beer advent calendars as well as discussing some terrific beers I received from a fellow home brewer and fan of the show. During the news I talk about some exciting local beer releases. I also cover the potential second shutdown the country is facing, and how it would absolutely decimate the craft beer world. During the interview segment I travel to Uniontown Brewing Company in Ashland, Ohio to sit down with Doug Reynolds who is the head brewer and President of the only brewery in Ashland. We discuss the beers that got him interested in craft beer, and how he took that love, along with the blessing of his wife, to begin home brewing and eventually owning a brewery.

  • Season 1: Episode 24 - Noble Beast Brewing

    In this episode I travel to Cleveland, Ohio to visit with Shaun Yasaki at Noble Beast Brewing. We discuss how he got started in craft beer. He talks about how working at Fat Heads Brewing Co., Platform Brewing Co., and Market Garden Brewing Co. helped him gain experience on his was to opening Noble Beast Brewing in 2017. We also discuss how he has been able to pivot their business model in order to survive the Covid-19 pandemic. While we chatted we also enjoyed some great beer from Noble Beast including a Bohemian Pilsner, an American IPA, and fantastic English Barleywine.

  • Season 1: Episode 23 - Bookhouse Brewing

    In this episode I discuss the recent virtual AGM event held by BrewDog. I also talk about how the craft beer industry is recovering from the Covid pandemic as well as how they are preparing for the winter. Later in the show I sit down with Vaughn Stewart from Bookhouse Brewing in Cleveland. We discuss the history of Bookhouse, the rise of breweries in the Ohio City area, the new trend of low or non-alcohol beer, and the difficulties of distribution.

  • Season 1: Episode 22 - Eighty-Three Brewery

    In this episode I discuss my vacation as well as my plans for the podcast moving forward in 2021. In the news I talk about Ohio's great showing at GABF, Heineken being find in the UK, and the massive can shortage the country is currently facing. In the interview segment I travel to Akron, Ohio and meet up with co-owner and head brewer of Eighty-Three Brewery, Chris Surak. We discuss how he went from homebrewer to brewery owner, and the impact that Covid has had on his business. We try some of his fantastic beers including a pumpkin stout, an amazing NEIPA, a refreshing Pilsner, and I enjoy my first Grodziskie beer.

  • Season 1: Episode 21 - Lockport Brewery

    In this episode I talk about my upcoming vacation, and discuss how hard seltzer pisses me off. In the interview portion I sit down with Lauren and Andrew Marburger from Lockport Brewery. We discuss how they got started in the small town of Bolivar, Ohio and quickly outgrew their initial location and had to move to a bigger facility. They also talk to me about running a brewery while a pandemic rages on. We sample a couple lagers, a brown ale, a session IPA, and a stout.

  • Season 1: Episode 18 - Twisted Spike Brewing Company

    In this episode I reach outside of the state of Ohio and into another state that starts with the letter O to find Twisted Spike Brewing Company from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The co-owner and head brewer Bruce Sanchez joins me to discuss how he took his almost 30 plus year love of home brewing and converted it into being one of the first breweries in OKC. Until 2016 beer laws in Oklahoma were very much antiquated, but after a new law was passed in August of 2016 the brewery boom of Oklahoma began. Bruce discusses how the brewery got it's name, his love of Belgian style ales, and how Covid has wreaked havoc across the OKC brewing scene.
