She sprinted to glory. That’s what Pipestone Area Schools’ Aurora Winsel accomplished last Saturday during the Big South Conference small schools track and field meet at Paulsen Athletic Complex. Winsel claimed gold in the 100-meter dash as well as the 200 dash and the open 400. She clocked in with a time of 12.91 in the 100, 25.82 in the 200 and 1:01.24 (400). “Aurora is simply a lot stronger compared to her prior years,” PAS head coach Mark Moeller said. “Her durability gives her the ability to bounce back faster between those races.” Winsel established a new league record...

Home cooking. That’s what the Pipestone A’s amateur baseball team enjoyed in its season-opening victory over the Flandreau Blue Teal, 9-4, on Wednesday evening at City Field. “They were a young, energetic team,” Pipestone A’s manager Avery Ploeger said of the Blue Teal, one of two summer baseball teams based in Flandreau. Ploeger said the Blue Teal featured challenging pitchers — starter Emmet Nathan settled down after a wild first inning allowing the A’s six runs. Speaking of pitching, five different A’s shared in the win, starter Carson Frank, Riley Bosma, Mitchel Carson, Mitchell Biever and Mark Abrahamson. Ploeger said...

The Pipestone Area Schools’ baseball team faced its most daunting task of the season last Friday at City Field. Fairmont provided the opposition. The Cardinals entered play with the second-highest Quality Results Formula (QRF) used by minnesota-scores.net (105.1) in Class AA. Fairmont is 33rd overall among the 359 baseball-playing schools in the state. What’s more, Fairmont (13-1) was fourth overall in Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association polling. The Cardinals’ lone loss was to Esko, 6-2, on Friday, April 11. “I looked at their QRF,” PAS head coach Rick Zollner noted. “They are very athletic, and they hit the ball...

MARSHALL — Pipestone Area Schools rallied from down 2-0 to beat Marshall in Game One of a Big South Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Avery Reinhard and Josie Danks crossed home plate on Kaysa Douty’s two-run, line drive double to center field. Addison Draper then added an insurance run on Sienna Rieck’s sacrifice fly, properly tagging up from third base to score. So it was the unsung Arrows who came through in a pinch, and eventually PAS swept the host Tigers during a warm day at the Marshall Softball Complex. The Arrows took Game One, 4-2, and followed with a run-rule...
