I can’t believe how this year has ended. It is hard to imagine that we aren’t clapping our our 5th graders and helping them envision their next step in education. I am relieved that most of our students will be transitioning to a wonderful building at PCMS. Some additional resources mentioned in the podcast: new student virtual tour. Dr. Miller’s email and Mr. Mueller’s email. ( not our usual set up so the quality isn’t as good but glad that we were able to connect to bring you this episode. ) Here is a link to the Virtual Tour for the Middle School
The 40 Developmental Assets are a list of assets that help our students feel successful. The list can be found here, and are briefly discussed in this podcast. Dr. Tulipana shares with us the impact that youth will have in their lives if we commit to supporting at least one of these assets with consistency. Bobby challenges our thinking about the types of food we eat, and a challenge for eating crickets was extended. If you want more information about the 40 Assets please check out these resources.
Want to know more about the roles and responsibilities of a school board member? Check out Buffy's answers to these questions and more. Featuring an experienced Rylee Peeler as visiting student podcaster. If you want to reach Buffy please feel free to contact her on her school email [email protected]
Ms. Madison Dunn (visiting student podcaster), asks Dr. Alex Williams, a clinical Psychologist, some great questions, and we dive into the ever interesting topic of mental health, changes in culture, how to find resources, and dispel some myths. I couldn't get enough of his insights, and invited him back to talk more about Trauma, strategies, etc. This is a good one! Dr. Williams references a couple of resources that we have listed here in case you would like to look into them:
Dr. Williams contact information
Advice for Selecting a Psychologist
Trauma Focused CBT
Book for parent reference (we do not gain any profit from Amazon), and this book can be purchased from all major book sellers:
The Parents' Guide to Psychological First Aid: Helping Children and Adolescents Cope with Predictable Life Crisis
Dr. Beutel returns to talk about how we can become more educated and practice strategies that help our children heal from trauma. In this episode the Ted Talk given by Dr. Nadine Burke Harris is referenced, and can be found at this link. Our student pod caster was sick, so we didn't get the joy that they bring to the studio. We hope you enjoy this episode, and if you want additional information regarding this topic, please feel free to call the school or district and ask for your child's school counselor, school social worker, principal or reach out directly to Dr. Jen Beutel at District Office.
Winter is coming! How do you keep your kids moving when TV, technology and other indoor activities have them tied to the house? Listen for some good ideas. Also, stay tuned to the end to find out if a cucumber is a fruit or a vegetable. What is your guess? Visiting student podcaster Maddon Britz has some fun questions for our panel.
