Pitt Athletics is teaming up with UPMC in a major new partnership set to debut in September—marking the first time UPMC patches will appear on football jerseys and becoming the presenting sponsor for all Pitt women’s sports. The deal extends beyond uniforms, with premium signage inside the new Victory Heights Sports Performance Center and Arena, plus potential tarps at Acrisure Stadium. Athletic Director Allen Greene emphasized the commitment to women’s health, inspired by his wife’s breast cancer journey. This builds on UPMC’s long-standing relationship with Pitt Athletics, dating back to 1986 when the sports medicine program began.

Barry Dunning Jr. is reportedly eyeing the transfer portal after a major legal development could unlock a sixth season for high school athletes from the 2022 class — including him — potentially allowing his return to Pitt. But insiders say it’s unlikely either Dunning or fellow forward Cam Corhen will stick around next year, despite Dunning’s standout play last season: averaging 12.5 points and 5.9 rebounds while leading Pitt in blocks and shooting over 46% from the field. With the NCAA’s door closed on an extra year, the court ruling offers a new path — but the transfer portal’s fast-moving nature suggests both players are likely headed elsewhere.

A Colorado federal judge’s bold ruling could let 2022 high school grads return for a fifth season — sending shockwaves through college sports. Former Pitt RB Desmond Reid is reportedly weighing a comeback for 2026, while forward Cam Corhen, who averaged 13 points and nearly 7 rebounds despite playing center, enters the transfer portal with “do not contact.” His forced role highlights Pitt’s roster struggles — including Dishon Jackson’s medical redshirt — revealing how this new eligibility window could reshape athlete decisions and NCAA dynamics.

Pitt’s 2026-27 non-conference schedule is loaded with early tests and high-stakes matchups, starting with home games against Rider and Buffalo, then hitting the road for Butler and a pivotal road game at Penn State’s historic Palestra. The Panthers face Villanova in a home-and-home showdown, followed by Central Michigan, before heading to Fort Myers for a tournament featuring Oklahoma, DePaul, and possibly Purdue — a potential early-season statement win. They’ll also battle Missouri in the ACC/SEC Challenge and close out non-conference play with the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia and three winnable home games. With a revamped roster and a chance to prove they’ve improved from last year’s 15th-place finish, Pitt must avoid early losses and build momentum for a strong conference run.
