The pads are back at Steelers training camp in Latrobe, Pennsylvania but that’s not the biggest news from this week of offseason workouts as the team added veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander to roster.

Alexander represents an addition where the team may have had the most question marks, but it also reveals a few fundamental concepts in how they want to approach this year’s schedule. They may have shored up the weakest depth chart with Alexander’s signing as well, which leads to another philosophy the front office has had this season.

Joe covers these various concepts and more in this quick hit episode.

Flash returns as he joins Joe for an actual “breaking news” edition of the Steel City Underground podcast, where there’s some actual Steelers scoops as training camp looms around the corner.

Pittsburgh made some headlines today by extending breakout edge rusher Alex Highsmith with a new deal that will see him in the Steel City for another four seasons. However, that hasn’t made “everyone” happy. But why? Why the disrespect for Highsmith?

And why the disrespect for some other Steelers?

The hosts cover this along with “worst takes of the week” and ask for your vote on the “worst!”

On our last episode, Joe and Brian were discussing an ESPN article in which analysts Mike Clay and Seth Walder ranked NFL rosters from 1 to 32. According to the article, they then combined rankings to come up with their list of the league’s best — and worst:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/insider/story/_/id/37892244/2023-season-roster-rankings-starting-lineups-all-32-nfl-teams

Joe returns from a bit of a holiday hangover to analyze where the Steelers ranked within this list, including those teams – including all three AFC North division opponents – that were listed higher than Pittsburgh. Is the ranking fair? Or is it a bit skewed?
