Prior to her current role, Kelly was the project manager and later director for all projects related to the planning, design, and development of public markets, as well as the popular How to Create Successful Markets training and the last four International Public Markets Conferences (2009, 2012, 2015, 2019). Dan Thompson an award-winning social artist, writer, and speaker living in Margate...(side note I think of him every time I go which is potentially a bit creepy as I haven’t met him before). His work is about people and places, and the stories that connect them. He is interested in the creation of social capital, in activating abandoned or underused spaces (and he is often synonymous with the pop up shop/ high street space movement if we can call it that. He is into DIY approaches to art, culture and social action and it’s going to be exciting to talk about who owns the story of a place because like us Dan often starts work with a crowdsourced exploration of a place, or with archives or collections relating to a place or topic.
It’s fair to say his approach is right up our street and we are delighted to talk to him!
