You don’t have to look far to see how discouragement and depression can weigh on even the strongest believers. Elijah had just experienced a great victory on Mount Carmel, yet within a day he was running in fear, drained, and ready to give up his life. Depression doesn’t mean you are weak or unusable by God; it means you’re human. Discouragement is one of Satan’s sharpest tools, but it does not have to define your life. The day that Jesus rose from the dead, he did not just quietly depart to Heaven. He wanted people to know that he was alive just as He had told them He would be! Following His resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days on earth being seen by hundreds of people. But that first day he wanted to reveal Himself to those dear to him. Jesus began first by appearing to Mary Magdalen. He came to console her broken heart, encouraging her with love and grace. The resurrection of Jesus changed everything and it is still changing lives today.
