In Colossians 1:15-20, Paul launches into a poem that talks about what makes Jesus, the Son, special. If the Son is God, if he is Creator, and if everything exists in and through him, then we really can trust him to hold everything in our lives together.

Much like a wolf born in the wild that refuses to be domesticated, we are born with wild, sinful instincts that prevent us from coming and living in obedience with God. God fills us with his Spirit so that we can know his will AND have the power to do it.

As we start out a new year, it's good to know that our God is always with us as a refuge and helper. However, sometimes we can't know him in those ways until we quiet ourselves and stop our fighting.
