In today’s episode on Disaster Planning 101, we talk about what a THIRA is and why you need to know with Kelly Echeverria, Emergency Manager for Washoe County, Nevada.  The conversation takes us through why understanding your THIRA is the best first step in developing a disaster plan and how understanding your THIRA helps you identify proper communication, develop mitigation planning to minimize compounding disasters, and why one size doesn’t fit all for disaster planning.  

We strongly encourage you to locate online your Office of Emergency Management (OEM) within the US, or in whatever country you may reside.  Find your State, County and local jurisdictional level OEM to identify and compare their mitigation plans and what that might mean for you in developing a custom disaster profile that meets your needs, location and situation.
